  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Fess Up! Harry Potter fans?

Yeah yeah...I know all the viewpoints, from pulpit to Parenting magazine.

I gotta admit...I love the books. I used to pooh pooh the whole thing, then I bought the first one on paperback to take to the hospital when my son was born. I finished it in two days, and that was before I went to the hospital!! Then a few months later I bought the 2nd 3rd and 4th in a gift pack and read and re-read them several times. The 5th one I finished in a day and a half. And I cried when certain people were killed.

Any Potter fans out there? Even grown-up ones like me???

Yup! I was originally skeptical of reading Harry Potter, because of its target audience. But after reading the first book, I quickly blasted through the next 3 (often staying up until 3 or 4 am reading). I still haven't read the 5th book (no spoilers, please!), but will some time soon.

Here is a good book Master Potter by Jill Austin. Earning 5 star ratings on Amazon. I loved the book. It was funny, inspiring and soul searching. Excellent reading.

2 Cor 10: 3-5. Says that we are to capture each thought under the obedience of Christ.

hmmm eh?

Since white magic, like black magic, is "an abomination" to God -- and since white magic is far more deceptive and seductive -- neither is good.

Ditch the Harry Potter as God hates it when you focus your mind on this stuff.

Witches, scorcery and paganism is as real as you and me and this all go in opposition to God.

There is only Good and Evil and when you flirt in the occult which is Evil YOU are in danger.

Hope to change your mind to some good Christian reading.

As the thread is title Harry Potter FANS, should the non-fans not just take the debate to the bazillions of other "evils of Harry" threads in this forum? No offense intended, but come on, there's no need to derail the thread.

I loved all the books. I've reread them all many times. Can't wait for the 3rd movie this summer, especially since that was my favorite book :) Book 6 isn't scheduled until 2006...*sigh* that's a really long time. Glad to see I'm not the only "old" person who likes the books :)

Love, Heather

Harry Potter is wonderful. It's also a good way to teach foreign languages, since kids have probably read them in english and can fill in the comprehension gaps (or at least that's what I'm doing).

My favorite HP quote:

"Why were you lurking under our window?"... Uncle Vernon
"Listening to the news" said Harry in a resigned voice.
His aunt and uncle exchanged looks of outrage.
"Listening to the news! _Again?_"
"Well, it changes every day, you see" said Harry.

Good books though i think the bad guys are treated a bit unfairly. :)
I do keep hoping that Draco will surprise the world and turn out to secretly be a wonderful human being who only wants the best for Harry.

Maybe I've read too much fanfic.

Well...I can't say I'm a fan because my exposure to Harry Potter involves the movie "Chamber of Secrets."
But when one of the characters said "Chiffon Lemon" to cast a spell, I wondered how on earth people can take Harry Potter seriously. I had to rewind it to make sure I heard it right.
Good grief.

No wonder people think we're crazy.

Old? Who's old? I've read all 5, and am actually going through the series for the 2nd time right now. I haven't pulled any all-nighters to finish a book. I read them in bed - kinda unwinding. It's light reading and pretty engaging so I don't have to think too hard.

Nice to know you can read God's mind.

I know there are pagans. I know there are people who call themselves witches. Sorcery is bunk. Your scare tactics are amusing.

Dood you need to check out the Bible about witch craft, at least by now you shuld of realised that the power of Darkness is real, and that thinks written about it even as fiction should not be brought into the house of anyone following God's law.

I have read all the books and liked them but have come to realsie the dangers of them.

Wake up and smell the coffee!

Gooney1, you can find good debates about this in the "Potter Evil???" and "Views on Harry Potter" threads. I'll say it again, if you ban all books with a mention of magic or sorcery, no matter if it's just mechanical or anti-materialist, you'll be banning a whole lot of books, but this isn't the place to get into that.
Back on topic. . .
I like Harry Potter! I've read all five quite a few times, and I beleive it's one of the best children's fantasies I've read in awhile. I, like others, scoffed at it at first, thinking it was just another craze, but then I read the first, loved it, and then read the others and loved them.

I did not through out all books with magic just then. I merely pointed out that from my perspective oh and God's that these books are wrong and related to evil

Ps. I read the books and liked them too, but here we go

Galatians 5: "witchcraft...those who live like this will not inherit the Kingdom of God."
anything to do directly with this is wrong throw them out the obsession is wrong

And I agree...this is not the thread to debate Harry. Go to one of the others if you wish to. Thanks.
