  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi. I've looked into both pretty extensively.

I'm currently getting ready to have my 4th IUI. I don't have much of a choice if I'm going to get pregnant because we are using donor sperm. The cost isn't too prohibitive - actually quite reasonable compared to other options. The procedure is relatively easy, and my own OB can do it in his office, which is another perk.

We're planning on doing 3-4 more IUIs if this doesn't work, then we will probably adopt.

We don't want to do IVF, mostly because of the cost. If we went with my husband getting a biopsy, and they were able to find anything, IVF would have been my only option. We were quoted US $10,000 for a one-time shot that would have given me a 1 in 7 chance of getting pregnant. The procedure for his biopsy alone sounded so horrible, that I told him that if he didn't mind using donor sperm, I won't mind if he doesn't do that - and he agreed. Also for that price, we can certainly adopt and that has a much greater chance of getting a kid.

Can I ask why you are asking?

I've never had either and would never have either personally.
If others want to use IUI, I think it's ok, but I'm against IVF, since embryos are made outside the body and the ones that don't get implanted are disposed of or frozen or whatever.
Anyway, I'm way too much of an advocate of adoption to support IVF.

I've found the idea of embryo adoption very interesting.

I would consider it if it was a little more accepted and structured. Right now, I don't think there is anything regulating it. Then again, there's little out there regulating sperm donation (genetically speaking), so who am I to talk, LOL!

sure you can. my husband and I are not quite that far down the line, but I'm just wanting to explore different treatments so if it comes to it we can have a fair idea of the direction to take.

Hope your IUI has the desired result :prayer:

Thank you for your prayers and I pray you are able to get pregnant soon.

If you don't mind my giving you advice if you get to the point where you have to look at other options. Whether it be here or anywhere else, if you ask around, you will get the full gamut of information along with little social commentaries - I'm just as guilty as you see here. Both you and your husband should explore all options out there in as clinical a manner as possible (i.e. ask the people with the degrees and licenses), and do what you and your husband decide together. Prayer that you are led to the right decision is very important, of course. However, don't let people who do not have God, MD, RN, Ph.D., LSW or Rev. somewhere in their name be the main influence in your decisions.
