Fencing

Does anyone here like to fence? In about a month, I am hoping to find a fencing class. Anyone here enjoy this sport?

Well, I tried to some years ago.. and liked it, but like with evrey sport I've tried I got bored after awhile (I can't seem to focus on one thing too long).

But it's definately something worth your time!

I've heard there are different kinds of fencing. Three kinds, epee, foil, and sabre; in your class, did they teach you all three kinds, or did you choose one that you enjoyed, or what?

We worked mainly with foil, but did a little with epee. I enjoyed the foil the most.

Foil and some epee. It was a fun sport -- much like chess with legs! I don't play anymore.

I found a fencing class close to where I live. It looks fairly good from what I have seen. It offers all three styles. I plan to try them all.

I took a foil fencing class, but I couldn't stand the way the scoring worked. The rules were too strict about offense and defense and stoppage of play for me - I like most sports I play to be looser than that. Are the other types much different?

I'd actually like to take a knife fighting class or something along those lines - not for any real world value, but just because it sounds fun. Play is along the lines of - first solid hit on a kill zone = winner. You also need next to nothing to play with, as one method I heard of apparently was with markers (to know exactly where a blow landed). But, I'm getting too offtopic I think.

That's interesting, I don't know where you could take a knife fighting class. If anyone has any info on knife fighting, please post it.

I did sabre fencing for a few months last year. I really enjoyed it, but due to some issues with the coach and my getting too busy I had to quit for now. I hope to return to it sometime in the future . . .

I'm not just a geek, I'm a hick too. When I clicked on this thread, I really thought I was going to find some people who enjoyed the post and barrier thing. Duh.

I have considered the fencing you are all talking about when I was younger. My depth perception is really lousy though.

I do have a post and wire project going now. I'll battle the barbs.

I love fencing! I actually got started in it through SCA (Society for Creative Anachronisms) which is a medieval reenactment group that is worldwide. It is awesome and so far I have been told I am a natural.

fencing...yes i enjoy putting up fences, not when its hot though

ok, now the inevitable joke is out of the way, fencing looks really cool. apparently fencers have the best legs out of all other sports players! and archers have the best torso. yum!
