Are there any other bird lovers here?

I wanted to start this thread to share some pictures and/or stories of our lovely feathered friends.

I have had many birds over the years, doves, chickens, turkeys, quail, peafowl, guineas, ducks, and geese.

I think, overall, my favourite have definitely been the Ringneck doves, they are just so gentle and sweet. I do love birds in general though.

This is the dove my husband and I have currently, her name is Sable.

We had almost all of the above (in the OP) when I was a kid. Our neighbors had peafowl. I loved their bird song, especially at dusk when they were settling down to roost for the night.

I loved having peafowl, and hope I can again one day. My husband and I hope to move to the country soon. We've been searching for a suitable place.

What a grand bird. Such brilliant vibrant colors. I thinks he sorta' knows how handsome he is.

Thank you Brinny.

You are soooo welcome in an apt i used to live in a dove aas trying to build a nest on the window sill.....i was entranced. She and her partner kept flying back n' forth with twigs, etc. Sadly they didn't finish it....they must've found a better spot. They were light gray. i think they were mourning doves. I love the soft cooing sounds they make.

Several times a day I enjoy bird song piped in through the chimney. Turtle dove, natcatchers, crows. I hear an occasional wood-pecker on the back yard fence area too.

I wish you the best in finding that place in the country.

I wonder if that's why we have the phrase proud as a peacock?

Yes, me too.

Sadly, doves are not great best builders, but they often find creative little spots to hatch and raise their babies.

I have two paintings that I did with Kathwren Jenkins on my wall!

Wonderful work. I painted a peacock once, back when I was in high school, grade 12, 17 years old.

I'll have to try to find the photo I took of it.

There has been a nesting pair of doves, and probably some of their offspring by now, return to the same nest for about 5 years in a row now. It's amazing every spring when they arrive to stake out that shady spot under the gazebo where last year's nest has been vacant for 12 months.

[edit] I didn't mention the nest is in a hanging planted pot. The nest was originally built by another bird species, I forget which, and the doves commandeered the nest. It's been theirs for 5 years now. They rarely, if at all, make improvements.
