  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Fell back to sin.

Well, from August 2010 to February 2011 I've been free of watching pornography and masturbation. Both of these I consider sins. Now I've fallen again into watching pornography. It's just that resisting these urges to sin just causes me great stress... and, somehow I feel released from that stress when I sin. I don't want to justify sinning, so I want to get rid of my sins as soon as possible.

I need help. I'll just be honest with myself. Before I fell into these sins, I stopped praying, stopped reading the Bible for how many months, I'm not exactly sure. Please, I need help.

James 1:13-15

"When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death."

Would you be watching porn if it didn't come into your mind? Every day, we are bombarded with many suggestions and temptations to do wrong. Even so, the overcome depends on the choice we decide to make - to dismiss the bad thought quickly or to entertain it and allow it to grow. If you let your bad thought become "Conceived", bad actions are sure to follow.

Cut off the source of the porn.

I agree! If you seek porn online, turn off the computer, get away from it, leave your house, and go do something else.

Something I find helpful with allowing me deal with anxiety is to keep a Christian channel on at all times. Right now I have EWTN's channel (online tv) playing in a different tab and it keeps me focused on the holy aspects of life and helps me to avoid temptation.

God bless!

You will get your strength from Yeshua... go back to reading your bible and praying... getting that personal relationship going again.. and this time ... keep it by praying with out ceasing.. for the war is not over until He returns... May you be a great overcomer in His name... Listen not to the accuser of the brethren... We have the best advocate on our side pleading our case before our Heavenly Father.. and He always wins.. He has His Father's heart...

The battle is only lost if you give up....the mind will never be satisfied with porn it always wants more and more its an unquenchable fire. get back up, and start again, if you get knocked down, get back up, be comitted in your mind that you will fight this battle till Jesus comes again, you will not give up and surrender, you will succeed, you will win in the long run, Its only a matter of not letting the enemy make you feel like its hopeless, even if it feels hopeless, It can be overcome, I'll admit its a difficult battle, but you can silence those spirits that put thoughts in your head, start rebuking evil thoughts and desires, out loud if you can, I found asking God to cast those perverted spirits into the abyss, was a big help over time.......what kinda weird is it sorta just leaves you, and when its gone its kinda hard to remember how it had such a hold you.....you can do it!:prayer:

I'm a bit confused by your ceasing of prayer and reading the Bible before you fell away. Were there months while you were resisting temptation but not praying or reading the Bible?

GrayED, for the first 5 or 6 years of my Christian life I really struggled with this issue. Back then a connection to the internet was not generally available, but that didn't stop me from buying magazines, so cutting your internet connection will solve nothing.

Eventually I came to realise that I was powerless to avoid sin, so I began to appreciate what believing in Christ was all about. It is Jesus who saves me, not my ability to remain pure.

When you fully understand this, the great burden falls away. You are going to stumble again, and again, and again, and again x 77 to the 77th power!

I find in my Christian walk there are times that are like daylight, where it is my pleasure to pursue God and be mindful of spiritual things, but then night will come where the things of the flesh seem paramount. This cycle repeats, and eventually you get used to it. Sometimes you just have to be patient and hold on to what you can until daylight comes around again.

Don't give up. God will forgive you, and everything will be alright again.

Friend, the urge to sin will always be with you. Until you die you will struggle against the temptations of the flesh, the world, and the devil. Do you, then, have to fall under the power of these tempting influences? No. The Bible says that every believer in Christ, every person who has trusted in Christ as their Saviour, has become a "new creation" in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17). In part this means that you are no longer bound to sin. At the moment you were saved, you had for the first time true freedom from the power of sin. The sin nature that provokes every human being to sin is rendered powerless by Christ's work on the cross. Paul the apostle knew this, which is why he wrote:

Romans 6:1-2
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?
2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?

No child of God has to sin. Upon being born again one is united with Christ spiritually in his death, burial and resurrection and this union with him puts to death the "old man" out of which sin arises and frees every child of God from sin.

Romans 6:6-7
6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
7 For he who has died has been freed from sin.

It remains for the one who wants to experience the truth of this in his life to begin to count on (or "reckon") it being true whenever he is tempted.

Romans 6:11-12
11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.

Instead of saying to yourself, "Oh, man I am want so much to look at porn," tell yourself the truth: "I am a new creature in Christ. I am free from the power of this sin." As you stand upon this truth, unmoved from it by what you feel or see, you will begin to experience its truth in how you live.

The Bible also says:

Romans 13:14
14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

Did you get that bit about not making any provision for the flesh? If you struggle with porn on the 'net, get rid of your computer. Seriously. Or get someone to place viewing controls on your computer so you can't access porn. Remove the temptation from your life as much as you can.

Remember, too, that the power to live righteously comes from God's indwelling Holy Spirit. Victory over temptation relies upon living in constant, conscious submission to the Holy Spirit, or what the apostle Paul describes as "walking in the Spirit."

Galatians 5:16-18
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

I need help. I'll just be honest with myself. Before I fell into these sins, I stopped praying, stopped reading the Bible for how many months, I'm not exactly sure. Please, I need help.
This, of course, has everything to do with falling into sin. The Word of God is your spiritual food. Just as failing to eat weakens you physically, so, too, failing to nourish yourself spiritually causes spiritual weakness. A spiritually starved Christian will inevitably fall into sin. King David wrote,

Psalms 119:11
11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You!

Psalms 1:2-3
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

Why have you ceased fellowship with God? For when you stop praying and studying Scripture you shut down the primary lines of communication between you and your Maker.

Selah.
