• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi,

I was feeling well for awhile. Now, the weather is getting to me. I'm from Los Angeles and moved to the northern part of Japan. It is cold here and there is no sun sometimes for days. They told me at church that this winter is warmer than usual. However, it is not warm to me at all. I feel depressed by the weather. I go out and it is cold and windy and always cloudy. I try to entertain myself by doing things, but my mood is beginning to become depressed. I am going to have to sing the blues from now. The winter here lasts another month. It is supposed to become colder and darker. It becomes dark here about 4:30 pm and becomes really cold. I have to turn off the water each night to prevent the pipes from bursting. I am warm inside since I have a heater. But, I don't feel like doing anything and want to just sleep and hibernate. Would you please pray for me?

Thank you!

Good thing that you're warm and have the heater. It's like that here in Finland too, even though we haven't had it ridiculously cold here in years. Just now it's pretty cold, froze my hair when I walked to the store after a shower. But anyway, that's all I know: when it's winter, the sun sets soon and there's only little light. Hah, I imagine it's quite a change if you're from California.

It's very common to feel more melancholic and tired when it's cold and dark. Even for those who have lived through many dark and cold winters already. Don't worry too much about it, just do what you can. It's something one gets used to, it's probably just a little "shock" to you at this point still.

Said a little prayer for you.

Praying for you. It is the same kind of weather we have here. Dark, and cold. I'm sorry it is getting you down. Can you afford one of those lights they sell for SAD (seasonal affective disorder)? I had a psychiatrist who had one in his office. He must suffer with SAD, too. I hope you will feel better.
