  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Feeling the baby

I was wondering, at what stage do you usually tend to feel the baby? I don't necessarily mean feeling it move, just more so feeling it when say, you lightly press on your tummy area.

Since I've had two miscarriages, I guess I'm freaking out a bit because I can't 'feel' it, but then I'm only around 10 weeks pregs, if that. I guess this may sound silly to some... But my DH and I realllly want this baby... any help / advice would be appreciated.

I don't know what i was able to feel the baby in my tummy from the outside. I remember feeling bub, but can't remember when it was!!! I think maybe 16 weeks ish? I popped really early (you could see my tummy at about 12 weeks... although people who didn't know i was pregnant would have thought i was getting VERY fat!!!).
But I felt movements from about the 14 week mark. That is the most amazing feeling... One of the things that i will miss about being pregnant!!!

You probably won't feel the baby move until 16+ weeks and you won't be able to feel your baby until you are very far along and the baby is bigger. There will be no mistaking the elbows, legs, and feet that kick around your tummy! :) Your uterus will grow more in the coming weeks though and things will become more real to you, just give it time and know that God's got it all in His hands!

I started to feel whooshing at around 16 weeks, but I didn't feel any actual kicks until 18, but it was only just a little. I'm 22 1/2 weeks now, and I can see my belly move when she starts going at it.

I hope that your little one makes it too. I've heard that many women don't even feel movements until week 20 or so. Don't let it worry you.

It's going to be the coolest thing ever. Sometimes my DH comes in and asks me why I'm laughing in a room by myself...Because our baby's dancing and dancing!

Oh, and I was absolutely scared to death in between my doctor's appointments. Now that I can feel her, I don't worry so much about hearing the heartbeat. You'll get there too! At my last appointment, the doctor had to chase her with the doppler all around my belly because she was spinning! Even the doctor was laughing.

Well my ob was away on holidays when he normally would have seen me. At 7 weeks i went to hospital with pain and bleeding (just went to the public one). Then everything else that has concerned me I took to my ob. I think its about normal to have your first appointment at 12ish weeks with an ob. I love my ob, and i'm glad i waited it out. I will definitely be going to him for my future pregnancies.

How far along will you be when you get to see your ob?

I hope you are feeling better after you had a good cry. Sometimes it is the best thing you can do!!! Try not to stress... i know it is easier said that done (I am the worlds worst stresser!!!):hug::hug:

14 weeks, sheessh, that's a while to get checked out. Is that normal?

I was just over 20 weeks before I saw *anyone*, and had already felt the baby move before that.

Hubby and I had been away from our home and spent a couple months in England and then a couple of months at his parents' in Cyprus...we finally paid for me to go and see someone in Cyprus to make sure everything was ok, and now that we're back in England and have a place to live I've booked in with the local GP and hospital (that was at 27 weeks).

I don't think I was particularly 'normal' in this case though...it's just the way things worked out.

Oooh I absolutely cannot wait to feel the baby.

As for my first OB appt. I'm not being seen until 9 weeks. Though I doubt anything exciting will happen until the appt after that one (from what I hear they happen every 4 weeks)

just a quick update. Went to our GP and he referred me to an OB - but that appointment isn't until the 19th May :sigh: We don't have many OB's where we are, so most are booked out. I had really hoped to get a sooner appointment.

If this is your first time seeing an OB, and you're worried because of your history, a simple explanation should get you into the OB sooner. With my first I went public, but with my second I decided to go private when I couldn't stop bleeding. My OB saw me the day I called because I told the receptionist it was an emergency (I was bleeding but bubs was alive and growing). With this baby I got an appointment at 5 weeks (I had to change meds at 5 weeks so the OB had asked me to come back that early) and I only booked the appointment one week in advance (obviously;)). My OB was very busy, and if he thinks you are going to have a normal pregnancy then he usually doesn't rush to see you. If you have a history of miscarriage they will usually push you ahead when they can.

I'll be around 15 weeks when I see the OB.

Thanks angelsgirl  I did feel better. I've just been feeling like everyone isn't as excited or happy for me and DH because I've had two miscarriages before, and they are all just waiting for that phone call. I've also been missing my mum heaps (she passed away nearly 2 yrs ago) and obviously wishing that she was here while I'm going through this.. she was always so positive. :(

Thanks Assisi, I do tell the doctors about my previous history, but because there is such a shortage in our area of OB's etc there isn't too much that they can do. I have made an appointment with the antenatal clinic for the 15th of May, so thats a little sooner than the 19th. Until then, all I can do is be patient and trust in Dr Jesus :D

Thanks everyone for all your support and advice, I appreciate it
