  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed today regarding school. I'm getting a cold and I've already been doing homework for HOURS today, and I have HOURS more to do tonight, and tomorrow I have classes from 9 AM to 5 PM. I don't even like school, I don't have a major, and I can't imagine four more years of this! UUUGH.

Why do I have to go to school? I just want to be a pastor's wife and do administration stuff in a church, bake dinner for sick people in the church, teach a bible study, heck, I don't know, anything but this!!! Is anyone else feeling this way? or is it just me? I wish I LOVED school but really i can't STAND it.

Sounds like you need to take what I like to call an 'Executive Timeout'. This is my motto: As the excutive and CEO of this body, it is my job to take a break whenever I feel as if my mental or physical health is in jeopardy. During an executive break, you stop everything you're doing, and do whatever it takes to relax . I usually change clothes, turn off the over head light in my room and turn on my desk lamp. Then i turn on my all-star gospel playlist that I have saved to my computer and just lay down and listen while writing in my journal until I feel better. Executive Time-outs usally last 15-30 minutes and I have to call one at minimum once a month. Then I can go back to what I was doing without pulling my hair out. Try it. It's great.

It's true that post-secondary education isn't for everyone. However, it certainly can hold many rewards for those who do choose to stick with it. Some of them are obvious - like better access to jobs. Others are harder to describe, such as a broader view of life in general. You'll have to answer your own question about why you are going to school. Why did you choose to go in the first place? Was it your choice? Your parents' choice? What are you going to do if you don't get married for many years? Would you like school better if you were taking classes in a different subject? Or perhaps classes in a shorter program?

I know your feeling low because of fatigue and physical hardships due to a cold, but speaking from a perspective of one that has been there, I think you would find life a little rewarding and hardship of living with a man that will be your pastor for as lon as he is a pastor or until you die. You would be suprised at the things that the wife has to endure even though she does not do the preaching. The pastors wife will live in a glass house so to speak, with no curtains. People will talk behind your back (even well meaning Christians that seem to know better)! You will be called upon to help in leadership of the church functions! You will be set upon to give advice and then be unappreciated if you make one little error in so doing. But there are a lot of rewards that come with the position. When someone comes up to you and hugs you and tells you that your special to them! Little children will shower their love on you. When you work and help to oversee fund raisers that are completely successful you will feel better because you stuck it out and got that degree. You might even be called to help with a Christian school in the church he pastors. So hang in there! You can make! If you need someone to pray for you just pm me and I will pray!! Oh, by the way, I pastored four churches myself so I speak that I do know! (been there done that)!!!:preach: :amen:

If you have a cold and you really are sick, then skip doing your homework and get some rest so that you get better. It is not worth it being sick. As for all the home work you are doing, are you sure you are not taking too much time to do it? When you are reading you do not need to spend time trying to absorbe every little detail of it just need to remember the main points. As time goes on you will come to learn what is important and what is not, as well you should be able to complete the tasks you are required to do in less time.
I remember in my first year of college being overwelmed with all of the work I had to, because I was not use to it. It became so worried about it that it was making me sick. But, by my second year as was much more use to the work and I had an easier time. In fact the longer I was in college the easier my courses seemed. Not necessarily, because the learning material was easier, but because I had experience in what I was doing.
I suggest sticking it out for the rest of the year and then deciding what you would like to do. Don't get discouraged if your marks go down a bit, generally this happens, but they go back up as time goes by.
Above all know that God is with you no matter what and pray to him about what is happening. As well, no matter how busy you get make sure that you at least take a little bit of time for your self everyday. It will do wonders for you.

How horrid! I think Matt9:22 really has a great idea. Maybe you need to schedule an entire day to just get well and chill out. Skipping classes with purpose is something I'm immensely good at (and skipping without any as well :p ), and it can sometimes make all the difference. I was dog sick all last week and ended up skipping more than half my classes. While you want to keep up, it's so important that you don't burn yourself out...especially this early in the year. Good luck and feel better!

I would agree that you need a break...I have been in your shoes many times before...feeling overwhelmed and just wore out, tired of it all...take a break do something fun, even that is taking a nap...get something to eat, talk to a friend and see if you feel any better about things...I would agree also with the skipping the homework/class if you are not feeling good...if you are sick, stressing yourself out is not going to make you any better!! You have to take care of yourself first, and if you are not happy then change something...you are strong and you just need to find that inner strength again!!!

I have school 8:30am-3:30pm Monday to Friday which is already bad enough on its own.

The program I am taking includes MATH and ACCOUNTING which are extremely, extremely hard for me. Then the rest of my classes are either STUPID (seriously) or a waste of time. Yeah... But anyways.

I want to be a PARAMEDIC. So right now all of this seems useless to me. Office Information Technology. How to be an administrative assistant. Well.

I am not an academic person. I am smart, I am intelligent, I just don't do well in things like MATH. I wanted to get computer skills because I've used Macs and I've been asked stuff at job interviews that I didn't know.

I am going to do whatever it takes to get through this year so I can go to Paramedic school but right now it's just not making sense to me and I just want to get through the year.

** Also I wanted to take Human Services, not OIT, but it was full **

thanks for all the encouragment. I just have a hard time with transitions, and I drive myself pretty hard to get good grades so I feel like a slave to doing all of my reading and all of my homework even if it's not graded...

I'm just having a hard time feeling passion for math, psychology, science, all of those classes...I think I'd be better suited to go to a bible college that would prepare me for ministry, I can't see myself getting bored in their classes, and I don't think i'd view my homework as a burden if it was based around God... I don't know, I just feel like I'm in a pickle, but you all gave some great advise, and I thank you so much for spending the time to give me your shared struggles as well as words of wisdom.

p.s. the good news is: lastnight i bought a baby chinchilla, so now when I do homework I get to take time outs to play with him before I go back to my work!

That's also a good idea. (the chinchilla)

I was going to ask if you have a hobby. I volunteer a lot. Here's my schedule.

School: Monday-Friday 8:30am-3:30pm
Monday night: fire dept.
Tuesday night: small group Bible study
Wednesday: St. John Ambulance volunteer medical response meetings 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month only
Thursday: nothing
Friday: Christian fellowship large group meetings at the local university (I don't go to it)
Saturday: nothing
Sunday: church

I would like to join the military part-time, it's Thursday nights... or possibly volunteer at the hospital in Ambulatory Care or Pediatrics.

Last year I was away from home at university, with nothing to do besides TV, sit in my room, or school... it's really good to have something in your week to look forward to.

I'm devistated, the baby chinchilla i mentioned on my last post had a back problem and died lastnight. It was the most painful thing to watch  . He and I bonded and got really close, we were even watching TV together when his back gave out and he became paralyzed. :( I'm so upset right now, he and I bonded, and now he's gone. Just a night ago my boyfriend and I made a little house for him out of wood. I can't even go in the room where his cage is, someone else will have to take care of it for me. I feel so terrible.
