Judge Rejects Trump Request for Order Blocking Bolton’s Memoir

WASHINGTON — President Trump’s former national security adviser John R. Bolton can go forward with the publication of his memoir, a federal judge ruled on Saturday, rejecting the administration’s request for an order that he try to pull the book back and saying it was too late for such an order to succeed.

“With hundreds of thousands of copies around the globe — many in newsrooms — the damage is done. There is no restoring the status quo,” wrote Judge Royce C. Lamberth of the Federal District Court of the District of Columbia.

Typical of Donald's presidency: if he had done it right when he was supposed to, he might have succeeded.

Thoughts?

Judge Lamberth was a Reagan appointee. Bolton's attorney is happy with the decision. Is Judge splitting the baby? He certainly leaves the door open for actions by DOJ. The $2,000,000 may be the least of Bolton's worries. Verrry interesting!

Bolton’s many things, but I’ve never got the impression the man is an idiot. If he actually thought they could sue him over the book, he wouldn’t have taken the risk.

Trump is just trying to scare him, and he knows it.

I'm not sure it would have made a difference in the long run. The committee that reviewed the book had worked with Bolton making changes for a few months. Then in April they sent an email to Bolton/his people, that said they had finished their review. So Trump would have to prove where there was still classified information. His argument was that anything he says is classified and that wouldn't fly in any court.

A pity that Donald's wrath isn't a scary as it once must have been...

. Speak for yourself about that ! Ive had flashbacks continually since he was elected . I had a decades long stint dealing with a narcissist. They’ll be destructive to everyone if they can’t get their way . Remember gassing peaceful protesters for a ridiculous and unnecessary photo op !

I said "wrath," not "vanity." That remains a problem.

Fortunately, as we've seen from the OP, wrath needs competence to make it effective.

Praise God \o/!

Bolton has worked under several presidential admins and is quite aware of the difference between classified and non classified information. Just another attempt of Trump trying to suppress the truth.

Trump won't let losing in court dissuade him. He's got his personal legal team at the DOJ on the case.

Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation into Bolton's book

The Department of Justice has launched a criminal investigation into the possibility that former national security adviser John Bolton "unlawfully disclosed classified information" in a memoir he published earlier this year, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

Citing conversations with three people familiar with the matter, the Times said DOJ "has convened a grand jury, which issued a subpoena for communications records from Simon & Schuster, the publisher" of Bolton's book, "The Room Where It Happened," which was released in June.

The Times noted that Trump has signaled that he wants Bolton prosecuted, including in tweetsthis summer in which he claimed Bolton "broke the law" and "should be in jail, money seized, for disseminating, for profit, highly Classified information."

Bolton's memoir presents a damning picture of Trump's White House. He wrote that the President only genuinely cares about his reelection and asked leaders of Ukraine and China to help him win in November. Bolton also said Trump is woefully uninformed about basic matters of foreign policy and is obsessed with shaping media coverage of his presidency.

Trump continues to show that he doesn't believe in the rule of law so much as "might makes right".

For all the complaining the right did during the Obama years, we're now seeing what a weaponized DoJ truly looks like.

No worries. The story is already out there, so what ever happens to Bolton is irrelevant (except to Bolton, of course).
Hmm, good point. This could be a win-win : damaging info about Donald comes to light and Bolton ends up in legal trouble. See, 2020 might have some redeeming qualities after all.
