  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In my town of Minneapolis Federal agents shot and killed Alex Pretti, a US citizen, nurse at the VA, and cancer researcher, as he was monitoring ICE activity with his cell phone, and after coming to the aid of a woman who had been hit with a chemical irritant. He had a licensed weapon on him that he was legally allowed to carry - a weapon he never drew according to all the videos available. Here is the NBC News article on the shooting.

And here is the most recent local NBC affiliate reporting, showing the video where the agent removes the gun from the victim before he was shot.

Bring more guns to the protests, and bring your rage. It’s the only solution... Also, more paramedics. I'll be at home taking part in the "outrage economy", helping to catalyze more of this.

...We can do it together!

People executed in the street and Trump supporters will, as always, hand wave it away.

Oh well, that's fine. When the Republicans lose their next election and the shoe is on the other foot, it'll be good to see former ICE personnel treated the same way they treated others.

Essentially ICE officers are indeed armed counter-protesters, who signed up on their own will for exactly this, and armed with the tax dollars of every Democrat in the country. :D

Facts are facts.

Facts are facts.

Given that all government agencies are paid for by tax dollars, I'm not sure what your point is meant to be?

Wow, that video tells the story. That ICE agent should be charged with murder.

I choose to believe that the moral arc of the universe bends toward justice.
Says MLK. We still have a very long way to go if that is true.

Unfortunately the Federal officials are making it nearly impossible for the state to press charges because they have denied access to all the evidence (like the weapon that fired the shots) and are not cooperating. We don't even know the name of agent or agents who fired the shots. The only thing the state has to go on is the bystander videos.

This could all go away if some of the cities (and their citizens) could make peace with the fact that they lost and would abide by federal directives and actually cooperate.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't meant to be an exoneration of the actions of any individual ICE agent....

There are flawed and corrupt people in every institution, law enforcement is not an exception to that rule.

...but it's the mentality of "even though I lost, and my position was not the most popular one, I'm going to actively impede and obstruct until the other side backs down and I get my way, the rest of the voters be damned" is not a stable position.

And make no mistake about it, that is what's happening here. A bunch of leftists shrieking in the streets, and actively trying to impede the enforcement of a law that they don't agree with (but that 60+% of the country wanted), and creating bad outcomes as a result.

The state has filed to get all evidence. Now it's up to the Federal judges.

That's the problem, Rob. This isn't about winning or losing by a political party. It's about the rule of law and the constitution being upheld which applies to everyone regardless of party. This administration is BREAKING THE LAW and ignoring the Constitution left and right. We don't just lose our rights because a certain political party won the election and decides we don't have them anymore. Not without due process, which is what the Left has been saying from the beginning. This didn't start just because Trump wanted to deport people. It started because he wanted to deport people AT HIS WILL. Without due process. Breaking asylum laws. Disobeying court orders. This is a criminal administration.

So, NO. We absolutely should NOT just let the party in power do whatever it wants and hope for the best to avoid conflict. We should fight against losing our rights and the criminals that are currently in office lest we lose our country altogether.

Are the citizens or cities obliged to abide by these particular federal directives and cooperate? If they are, then this should be decided in court. If not, it is up to the federal agencies to perform their missions under the circumstances they find themselves.

No, it is only ICE and CBP that have shot anyone. It is a bit rich to say that they didn't create the bad outcome (I'm not saying they are necessarily legally culpable, hopefully we get an investigation to comb out the legalities around the shootings). At the end of the day somebody pulled a trigger and it wasn't the "leftists shrieking in the streets".

I guess it's okay to harm Democrats.Since Democrats pay big with tax dollars. To me, this Democrats money can go to better causes. In California.
