  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm a music elitist in the entire sense of the word... So, I may be biased, but I think Nickelback is amongst the worst bands out there- they are just so uncreative and their lyrics are vile. Also, Kroeger needs a better haircut. I even wrote an essay about how much I dislike them for my Advanced Writing class.

I don't like mainstream music though, at all, so it's kind of hard for me to see much in any popular bands. However, I don't see much of anything in Nickelback.

Just my taste.

A few of my favorite bands are:

Ensiferum, Wintersun, Eluvium, Death Cab for Cutie, Unwed Sailor, Pedro the Lion, The Postal Service, Brandon Flowers/The Killers, Hammock, Stars of the Lid, Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, Damien Jurado, Minus the Bear, A Great Big Pile of Leaves, Low, Juno, The Fray, Sondre Lerche, Balmorhea, Mice Parade, Starr Parodi, Sigur Ros, Precious Fathers, Mount Eerie, Early Day Miners, The Dead Texan, Drudkh, El Ten Eleven.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but that is the majority of what I listen to!
Most things ambient, if it's done well, and most things post-rock. But Scandinavian metal will always be close to my heart, as well as the sweet and bitter lyrics of Ben Gibbard, and the style and cleanness of Brandon Flowers.

They were a truly influential band- they invented post-rock practically... I mean, Talk Talk did sort of formulate the new genre, but Slint and Godspeed You! Black Emperor perfected the genre. What's characteristic about Slint, and all post-rock, is the amount of instrumentation used and the very heavy reliance upon dynamics.

Lol, I never got into Nirvana much... but I do know that Earth collaborated with Cobain while he was around. Slint broke up in '91 though, so they're an old band.
