Favorite Rpg Characters

Ok, you guys seem to like Final Fantasy alot, so I was thinking who are your favorite characters in each game. If you want to, list your top 3 from each game for Final Fantasy 4-10. Here is my list:
Final Fantasy 4: Cecil, Edge, and Rydia
Final Fantasy 5: Bartz, Galuf, and Reina
Final Fantasy 6: Sabin, Celes, and Shadow
Final Fantasy 7: Red 13, Aeris, and a tie between Vincent and Cloud
Final Fantasy 8: Squall, Rinoa, and Quistis
Final Fantasy 9: Amarant, Vivi, and Garnet
Final Fantasy 10: Kimahri, Lulu, Yuna
Also, if you wish, you can list your fav characters from other rpgs. Here are some of mine:
Breath of Fire: Ryu, Bleu, and Ox
Breath of Fire 2: Rand, Katt, and Nina
Breath of Fire 3: Garr, Rei, and Nina
Chrono Trigger: Crono, Ayla, and Magus
Chrono Cross: Zoah, Lynx, and Leena
Xenogears: Rico, Fei, and Bart
Thats all I can think of right now. I have played so many Rpgs, its hard to keep track of them all. I hope to see some good choices here.

Well, it depends on which game you speak of. Cid was only a playable character in Final Fantasy 4 and 7. I just put my top 3 also, there are others I would have liked to put in, but couldn't fit them.

No, you couldn't play as him. He was an important character though, he created the Magitek Factory and later saves Celes and helps her find the other party members. If you want to put non-playable characters down, thats fine. I assumed that we would only put down playable characters though.

Nope, sorry. Zelda isn't an rpg, so you can't put any characters from it in here. Zelda is an action game, so if you want to post a new topic with fav action characters feel free to post them there. This is the second time that Zelda has been mistaken for an rpg game. Please don't make that mistake again. Nintendo only considers Zelda an rpg, since they have none except Pokemon.

Those are some pretty cool choices. I have noticed a few patterns here too. Such as Squall, and Rinoa; and Vivi and Garnet. This should tell Square something. I have often thought about how cool it would be to see a fighting game involving Rpg characters. Imagine a Soul Calibur battle between Cloud and Squall, or Tifa and Aeris. I think it would be interesting to see how someone like Cecil would do against Tidus. Let me know what you think.

hehe i think it would be cool for a while, but fighting games die out too quickly. or they could combine them for another type of game. doesn't necessarily have to be an RPG, but...i don't know.

Where did you come up with that? Zelda is an RPG!

But to answer the question, i'll have to say Mario from Super Mario RPG followed closely behind Sora from Kingdom Hearts. Runners up are as follows: Cloud, Link, Dante (Devil May Cry is an RPG/Action seeing how you can levl up your weapons and what not), Lucia, vincient, Red XIII, and bringing up the rear, Zero.

Ok, then how is Zelda an RPG? You don't level up and there is no party system. Zelda could be considered an Action/Rpg, but only by the loosest standards. Don't say exploration as one of the Rpg standards, because then every game is an Rpg. I love Zelda as much as anyone else here, but it isn't an rpg. Period.

You kinda do level up in Zelda. You aquire more health at intervals, each time a major boss is defeated. So you don't collect xp points, you still basically get rewarded with health for defeating a serious monster or doing a side-quest. That sounds like an rpg to me. Link also gets other boosts and gear for side-quests and exploration, the only missing element I can find is customization.

But we're splitting hairs here, aren't we?

Well there are other things too. You don't have a party system for one thing and you don't really level up. Getting more health is not considered leveling up, if it is then every game would be an Rpg. Also, there is no stats that you level up. Like strength or magic. Also, the battle system is not turn-based, its action based.

So, basically; Zelda is not a Rpg! Please accept this. Final Fantasy is a Rpg and so are games like Chrono Trigger, and Breath of Fire.
Zelda is an action game with Rpg elements like hit points and magic.
