i know that. but i think that's just the surface of this thread.tattedsaint said:actually no. i started a thread, put my fav. record labels, and the people that responded, they put their favorite record labels.![]()
Agreed. And yes, the Goo Goo Dolls did switch labels. They were on Metalblade (or Metal Blade?), IIRC. When they switched labels, their style also changed (IMO, for the better based on hearing a couple samples of early material, but w/e). I hate the term 'selling out' with a passion.musicPhan#41 said:i know that. but i think that's just the surface of this thread.
deep down inside, i think it's an indy/underground thread. Because i've found, the people who are super interested in "who's with what label these days" are the indie/underground people.
i like a ton of artists, but i don't know what label they're on. It doesn't make a difference when i listen to their music. The only difference i see are big labels, and small labels. Big labels are typically the same- they try to make the most money possible with their artists, and small labels are usually thought to being more "quality-minded", although it doesn't really matter because there is PLENTY of quality music that is released on major labels.
i just don't like it when a band is thought poorly of, when they switch from an underground label to a major label. i think the goo goo dolls did that, or maybe they just went from underground to mainstream really fast. I just hate hearing people complain about "selling out" and whatnot. (i'm not saying that's what you guys are doing in this thread though).
if you are really interested in talking about record labels, more power to you. Enjoy your discussion.
