  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yeah, but we already discussed that

Have you ever heard of CS Friedman? I highly recommend her Coldfire Trilogy. And also George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire

The Coldfire trilogy sounds familier. what was it about?

I'm no good at summaries, so here's one from Amazon

For over a thousand years, the colonists of the planet Erna have struggled to gain control over a land prone to seismic instability and infused with a wild, near-sentient natural force known as "the fae." While sorcerers and adepts manipulate the dark and light sides of this power, the Church maintains its stance in opposition to its use. As the dark side of the fae grows in strength, feeding off the nightmares and greed of the minds that are drawn to it, four individuals form an unwilling alliance to battle the source of evil. Friedman ( In Conquest Born , DAW, dist. by NAL, 1978; The Madness Season , DAW, dist. by NAL, 1990) has produced a splendid hybrid of sf and fantasy in this first volume of a trilogy. Hauntingly memorable protagonists, high drama, and vivid world-building mark the beginning of what promises to be a magnum opus of the imagination. A priority purchase for fantasy or sf collections.

Man Nienor, your just my biggest critick aren't you. Well thats ok. Some of thier books didn't impress me very much either, but some of the sort stories in the Tales seires are really cool and funny. While it is not my fave series they are ok and a good read every now and then.

Why don't you like them?

I'm not critiquing you, I'm critiquing the books...I'm just rather picky

Hmm...it's been a while though. I don't think the plot was very developed. And the fact that I can't remember much about something I read two years ago doesn't say much...I remember other stuff I read in that time period...

But I promise I do like books Just read my favorites list - it's plenty long

I know it just seems that every book that I chose you find something wrong with it

Well it sort of depends on the books that you read from this series. Some of them are really slow and the plot is slow and a little undeveloped. One of thier triogys that I liked was the Dargonlance Legends (Time of theTwins, War of the Twins, and Test of the Twins). I haven't read any of thier newer books yet so I don't know how they are doing now but like I said earlier they are ok, not great but ok.

I know you do and I'm not saying different, you wou;dn't be posting in this thread if you didn't.

You're just asking me about the wrong books - if you picked LotR, Dune, The Coldfire Trilogy, A Song of Ice and Fire, Incarnations of Immortality, The Silmarillion, etc...

I don't remember which books I read. But you just have the misfortune of asking me about series I don't like - to continue with this next you would ask about Terry Brooks or Anne Mcaffery...

Terry Brooks huh....well I do read him. BUT although he started strong he really ruined it in his later books...so I think we'll probally agree on him. as for Anne Mcaffery I don't think I've ever read any of her books so were good there. And Dune is AWESOME.
