  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"Day time fasting" + "night time eating" is not consistent with the Biblical theme of prayer and fasting.

Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish. <-----> Esther 4:16

[ Note: Esther's thought of possibly perishing was not from going 3 days and nights without food or drink, but from being possibly sentenced to death by the king Ahasuerus.]

Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry.
<-----> Matthew 4:1+2

Fasting only during daylight is another way of missing out on the full effects of prayer and fasting. Such daylight fasting is common among Muslims.

To Know God's Word is to Know The Truth.

Lev 23:27 The tenth day of the seventh month is the Great Day of Forgiveness. It is a solemn day of worship; everyone must go without eating to show sorrow for their sins, and sacrifices must be burned.

Jdg 20:26 Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto the house of God, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.

Well, guess I'm prone to discount what is most often a "ritualized form", of fasting - which is for the most part done out of a sense of duty to "the law", instead of pleading as The Spirit spontaneously leads for mercy and grace.

Jdg 20:26 Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto the house of God, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.

In the context of the above the children of Israel were in the middle of an arduous, bloody battle with their own kinsman, and therefore likely didn't want to be a bit weakened in their flesh by a sustained fast...once again not the kind of fasting that speaks of Christ. But the kind which still fits well with militants after the manner of this world, who war in the flesh, rather than by The Spirit.

Much of The Old is revised by The New.
