Possibly decieving spirits. I do believe that dragons existed. Job especially speaks of dinosaurs, but it also says that fire comes out of it's mouth. Several dinosaur species had enlarged cavities on their heads that scientist think were nasal cavities for making sounds but what if they were cavities to hold glands like the bombadier beattle?

Oh! (sort of on the subject).

Check this out:

Mythology forum <--- (shameless support for my idea)

I suggested a mythology forum.

(on the subject):

I don't disbelieve the existance of fantasy creatures, but I believe anyone that says they've seen them about as much as I believe anyone that say's they've seen angels (that is, not much).

i don't think so. Or else it would have spoken of them in the scriptures.

The scriptures doesn't mention you, me, or the internet either. But here we are.

I am almost completely undecided on this issue. There are certain things that make me think certain creatures might exist (particularly certain myths or phenomena that occur in seperated portions of the world) but those things could lead to other conclusions as well (unknown cultural influence, collective unconsiousness and so on.) I'll keep looking though.

I have no proof... and I want to say right off the bat that it doesn't really matter to me, if mythology characters (esp. Gods/heros) were real. But my theory is that the sons of God (pre-flood that mated with the daughters of men) were nephilim, aka fallen angels. That these were the "mighty men of old" in the bible and also that these same might have been the greek/Celtic Gods, etc.

There's probably some fallacies here, I'm SURE there are probably... but I can't help but wonder if they're somehow tied. Because I firmly believe that mythology has some basis in reality.

In any case good topic. Btw.. .my favorite fantasy character is Drizzt Do'Urden!

I don't see a problem with even allowing that some may currently exist. Not, mind you, in terms of the "deities", but in terms of the creatures. I don't know if they do, but I am willing to accept it. So, I guess you could say I am somewhat agnostic about fairies, unicorns, etc. I don't see any reason to deny their existence outright, but as I haven't seen them, I don't know. However, I think that allowing for them gives us a much deeper sense of the mystery and beauty of Creation.
