  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

i don't know i read fiction what is fan fiction?

Fan fiction is when fans take an already written fiction story, such as Harry Potter, and using the same characters, they will write a new story. I write CSI fanfiction.

I don't tend to read Fan Fiction, unless it really adds something to the world which I love.

I started writing a Star Wars novel a long time ago based around Grand Admiral Thrawn's history, but I ended up abandoning it after I realised I didn't know enough about star wars to do it properly... And then my computer ate my file... so that put a stop to it.

Sometimes I like just "stories set in the universe" fanfics, but I really like fics that give imaginative backstories and histories. Though I understand copyright, etc., I think authors, filmmakers and TV show creators should be incredibly flattered that they've created worlds and characters that people want to explore further.

Star Wars is a tough universe. There's so much out there, and it's hard to tell what's canon and what isn't. I admire you for even trying.

i used to read a lot of fanfiction at fanfiction.net. i don't anymore though because there is a lot of pornographic writing as well as good writing. i just don't want that to be a temptation for me so i don't go there. although i do read from some other websites.

There's a lot of sci-fi fan fiction out there. Some of it actually gets published by major publishing houses. For example, Eric Flint wrote "1632". It was supposed to be a one-time thing. Now, it's become a series, and several of the fan fiction stories that were posted on the fan website operated by the publisher and author were incorporated into a paperback of short stories built around the characters and world of "1632". Now, there's several unpublished authors who have been published by a major publisher.

The summary is that you never know when someone reading fan fiction will actually want to publish it.

There is a paperback "Drakas!" based on S. M. Stirling's recent Domination of the Draka novels. And how many people have professionally published Sherlock Holmes stories?

My attempts at writing have been pathetic. The responses I get strongly imply none of it is worth reading, but they are too polite to say it.

Well, now at fanfiction.net there is a filter where you can read only stories that are G-PG13 (or as they have it on there, K-T). I usually set my filter on that. I don't need to reading all the porn stuff:sick:

i've read fanfic a number of times. i usually resort to it when i'm bored out of my mind and it's either read something half-way decent or play never ending games of freecell. once i've worn out freecell (i.e. lost so many times i can't stand it any more) i read whatever catches my eye on mediaminer.com
