Anyone else sick and tired of hearing about fake news? It seemed to start out as an actual thing, but then just turned into a cop out way to say "That doesn't fit into viewpoint." It exists on both sides, and it ultimately just dismissive. That's all political or current event debates or discussion seem to be, is people just shouting "fake news!" at each other.

You're only sick of it because it's mostly being shouted from the right and you can't stand it because we're dismissing all the FAKE news stories that keep coming out. How many more of these organizations are going to get in trouble and fire staffers for publishing fake news with unknown sources?

Why don't you actually call out the lying media and what's really going on with real fake news instead of a thread like this? Is it possible for the left to be honest about this at least?

Several of the stories related Trump and Russia have relied on anonymous sources. They've been published only to be retracted in part or in whole.

I think that it is hilarious, since it started out as a way for corporate media to attack both Facebook posts and small, independent press services. Then it got turned around on the major media outlets.

Fantastic point. It has went haywire.
It was coined in late 2016 after pedogate, to dismiss all the circumstantial evidence that pointed to the elite being pedophiles. all any MSM outlet has ever said on the topic was "its debunked" well how? "Its fake." ....ok

I'm not talking about the media's horrendous news reporting, but about how people are just going around and accusing every article they don't agree with to be "fake news" instead of actually responding to it.

They are responding to it. That's their response. James Comey just said there are a lot of fake news stories that were published, but they can't go around and say, "Yeah, that was fake." So seriously, please tell me how we can know what is a real news story and what is fake news made up by the left? How much of what you actually think you know about Trump from what you hear or read is true?

1) What is the ultimately agenda of the article? Are they just trying to relay the facts or trying to push an agenda?
2) Do other sources verify the claims made by this article?
3) Do the other sources verifying the claims generally agree or disagree with the original source?
4) What is the public's response to the article? Is it only the viewers/readers of that source that find it to be true?

If there is no agenda, it's verified by other souces that generally agree and disagree with the original source, and everyone across all spectrums respond in the same way, then it's a credible report.

I don't know, but I also don't watch or read the news anymore because I don't find any of it to be truly unbiased and thus credible.

This is the old story of the boy who cried wolf. Once you tell a couple of tall tales, no one believes you anymore.

As far as I'm concerned, the MSM doesn't deserve to be believed.

From where I sit on this here globe, I couldn’t possibly presume to be an authority on which news is fake and which news is real. I don’t bother with any of it anymore.

The thing I can't stand the most is flashy, misleading news headlines
