• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm hoping to get some responses from the numerous faith-seekers on this forum;

1) Why do you currently not consider yourself a theist?
2) What are your reasons for trying to become one?

And since this is the morality forum and obviously not something else:
3) Do you consider it moral to clone yourself including all your memories so that clone thinks he's actually you and then trick that person into taking over your whole life while you leech of his bankaccount and drink lotsa cocktails in the Bahamas?

The question here lies in, can that clone also deal with unruly mother-in-laws and alleviate some frustration from our lives?

Well since it's an exact clone of yourself: most likely not. :)
Unless you discover the tolerating-your-mother-in-law genes somehow, but I think neither god or evolution produced those.

1) Why do you currently not consider yourself a theist?

Not enough evidence and the evidence we do have (Bible, Torah, Koran....) not only don't look like they were written by the all powerful creator of the universe, in fact most only make sense if you put them in the context of human writers making this stuff up as they go along.

2) What are your reasons for trying to become one?

Family mostly. My wife and all of my family are fairly liberal Christians but still cling to the notion of God. In my part of the country and in my family I would be a lot better off being a theist.

Not really sure how to answer that. I don't think cloning is immoral as long as the cloned individual is given the same rights as a "normal" person and not treated like a lab animal who can be put down whenever.

I'm not really a "faith-seeker" as in someone looking for a specific church to belong to, but I think everyone should keep an open mind and consider opposite points of view. I think people are at their most foolish when absolutism is involved.

Watch "Caprica", debuting this fall on the Sci-Fi channel. Quite relevant to this question, I'd say.

So you'd be lying to yourself if you did "find faith" and doing so only for your family. Not really the proper thing to do IMO. Seeking for truth should be free of obligations.

Thank you for your honest response Mattman. Reps

Yes social pressure can be a potent force but does this mean you are 'pretending' to be a theist in your community (which I completely understand, I would probably do the same) or are you actually trying to accept god despite that you think there really isn't enough evidence to support the idea of a god?

Also, do you have discussions with your family about your point of view? If so: how did they react?
