• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

A decision by Senior Staff has been made and will be followed.

Four games will remain in the main forum, no more.

Some Interview like "games" have been moved to the Face the Board Area. No more than four of those will remain, and I believe I have four targeted to go there already.

What we could vote on is how frequently we will change out the games. At the moment the plan is that when the Fellowship thread (which is a sticky) reaches near a thousand posts and is unstickied and a new one started, that the current games would be closed or removed at that time and four new games would be started.

If members would like the frequency of when a game is closed out so a new one can be started to provide the forum with some new games to be different than this plan, staff is very open to hearing that.

But this poll is mute. A decision is made. This is not a democrasy as much as we might try to have polls, and get feedback. There is an owner and he has selected who is in his Senior Staff. Between the Owner and the Senior Staff a decison has been made.

but ... why? because of a few, or many disgruntled 40 year olds?

At our church, not much gets changed without a 85% vote. Were there 85% disgruntled "I came here to fellowship" 40 year old adults? 50%?
Or, dare I ask like Abraham asked God when trying to save his family in Sodom and Gomorra when Abraham seemingly haggles God from 50 righteous down to 10.
Genesis 18:32 And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.
But peradventure should some regular members ask that this forum stay the same, would you please let it stay the same?
I've posted in the Rec Room. I choose to post here with people my age.
So what if there are games. Has anyone that poo-pooed the game threads actually read any of the game threads? Like Roll Call? There's a lot of fellowship and good conversation that goes on in there. Good fellowship threads will remain postable. Are you, who are poo-pooing the game threads, telling me that people are that lazy that they cannot even click on the number 2? (for page 2)
Further, just how often do the nay sayers post here in this forum? Has anyone done a post history check? One, that I suspect (as this poster as much admitted it) is very rarely here. Are we supposed to bend to the whims of the rare visitor to these forums? What about the voice of the regulars? Don't we have a say?

Actually, I believe that the initial plan was to remove all games. However your Fab 40's Staff have taken the position that this forum likes games and therefore we will keep some of them.

There will be four interview like games in the Face the Forum areas, and four other games in the main forum.

Threads need to be used for a purpose, not just to say goodnight, or hello, etc. Those type of communications can be done in the main fellowship thread which is put as a sticky to make it easy to find.

It is fine to express your disappointment but it is also important that you follow the rules of CF:

7.1 You will not post in a disparaging or argumentative manner about a moderator or staff member's actions in any public area of the site including the Chatbox.

Also consider these rules:

3.7 You will try your best not to start a new thread if a thread already exists on the same topic. Staff may choose to intervene to merge threads with similar topics to prevent cluttering the forums.

(We have an entire forum for games and many of the games in this forum were duplications of those games. Also some of the games here were very similar to one another.)

2.3 You will not start threads with topics that are not relevant to the forum topic. Staff reserves the right to move threads to the appropriate forums.

(Fab 40's staff have agreed that in this forum, the members like game threads, although we have been told by Senior Staff that game threads all belong in the Rec room, we have advocated to keep four games. Then today, staff moved an extra four "game" threads that seem to fit well into the theme of Facing the Board subforum. This will therefore keep 8 games open.)

Of the ten current games, six or seven will be closed in about three days when the poll closes.

There should be a check in and a check out thread. We like them. What is the big deal in keeping them?
Please note that I am just asking because this seems so out of the blue. I haven't broken any of the rules that I have moderated myself.

I really liked playing the games with people my own age. It was fun while it lasted. It's just that this is all so ubrupt that it's hard to get our minds around it right now.

I noticed that the other age forums don't seem quite as lively as we have been ... and not as ... silly, I guess ... but many of us are at that time in our lives where we just need to let down our hair and play ...

Thanks, at least, for letting us keep some of our game threads.

I'm w/you Tat. I don't think we've been too silly, either. We all support each other here, and I kinda thought that was the point. We all feel comfortable w/each other, we boost each other when we need to and kick each other when we need it. It's not all fun and games . . . but those help us wind down after we get beaten up elsewhere.

We shall have to deal w/it, I guess . . .

Exactly my feelings on the subject. As far as I am concerned, it wasn't broke so it didn't need fixin.

I think maybe what we are going through are growing pains - we just gotta stick together through it:groupray:

I like the Rec room, but my thing is that THIS WAS THE PLACE FOR FELLOWSHIP. Now I feel like I don't even want to come in here. Our fun has been taken clean away from us. I like to fellowship in and amongst ourselves in the game threads. We have fun, and because we are all in our forties we can understand where the other is coming from.

And as for my Through the Bible thread, I am ticked it was removed. I started it so that we could share the bible together. It wasn't a game to me. In here I could post one verse at a time and not have to have it be only one version of the bible. I am just not happy in most other parts of this forum as I am in here. I feel comfortable in here.

Now that I have been stripped of my comfort zone...I will find somewhere else on the net to bide my time.

Just a reminder. IN the Sticky thread that has the list of games for voting... that poll will close late Saturday Night (EST). The top four games will stay and the rest will not.

At some point this thread will also need to close as this decision has been made and discussion of it will not result in a change. It could actually be disruptive to the forum.

So, the plan is that this thread will be removed when the change takes place.

I don't like any of the games to choose from, so I can't vote :sigh:

well, let me ask this question, then. Is there any reason we can't start some of our favorite games from here, over there? Most of the games presently in the Rec room, are boring. They don't hold my interest. The games we have (and had) here in Fab 40's were more interesting, and worth playing, for me. I hate the number games, and there are at least 6 of them on the first page, maybe more. They give me a headache!!!
