  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In a few cases God gives prophets an eyewitness account of the end of the world, or of creation in 6 literal days ... etc.

Some have argued that they find eyewitness accounts of the end of the World - the Second Coming - to be boring.

Do you agree?

What's remarkable is how boring the works of Mohammed, Joseph Smith, and Ellen White are .

IMO - nobody can actually read the last chapter of the Great Controversy and then claim it is boring.

The Controversy Ended

Can't be done.

And of course when you view the index of chapters
The Great Controversy | Ellen White | John Wycliffe | Martin Luther

The chapter from the same book - on the 2nd coming - is impressive as well

God's People Delivered

And it starts with something in an obviously not-boring fashion like this

in Christ,

Bob

I tried reading the excerpt and couldn't finish. Good lord, the writing is so pretentious and yet it's so horribly written (can't stand faux-KJV). It's like reading Twilight.

Pretentious is an understatement. A header type beginning sentence then an explanation of that header with absolutely no explanation of how we arrive at such an odd conclusion except to qualify it by the goddess like prophetess' unerring perfection.

Take one spoke off the cog and it stops dead.

:end of the world, round 1, truth:

...and then all the SDAists gasped in great disappointment, realizing that they too were actually sinners.

"You mean going to church on Saturday wasn't the one thing we were doing right, that everyone else wasn't, that will get us off the hook for sin?!" they exclaimed!

Uh, No said the angel. 'Ain't happenin.'

Do the choices (or lack thereof) seem odd to anyone except me?
It's similar to asking someone of they have stopped beating their spouse yet.

If you don't hold a certain belief, you can't honestly vote.
Who are the eyewitnesses of an event that has not yet happened? A vision is not an eyewitness account. It's a vision and not all visions are accurate representations of an event. Some are similitude and some are just plain old made up.

You are not alone; the selection is very peculiar. The visions of Ellen White are remarkably serviceable to SDAism, so much so that I think they are "just plain old made up".

Are you from Alaska?

Russia isn't the end of the world, unless you're Sarah Palin, and we're not neighbors.

No sir, I stand proud on the prairie, near where the mighty, muddy Missouri River is joined by the Platte River. And I don't own a gun because artist/musicians know how to survive without them!

The last chapter is how many pages? 16? out of 678? That's 2.4% of the book and you think that makes the whole book interesting? I don't believe that.

I was just pointing out that the last chapter - and also the one I gave an example of in the OP - are a good illustration of what is not exactly boring.

Bob

I'm still perplexed on how one can be an eye witness of a future event.

John is an eyewitness to it in the book of Revelatino chapter 19.

Moses is an eyewitness to the creation event in Genesis 1-2:3.

that is the benefit of serving a God that is not limited by time.

He is able to show his prophets specific events - even if they are not in the same time frame as the one being shown the event.

And the result is some very 'not boring' material to read.

in Christ,

Bob

I didn't mean to grind your thread in the joke mill, Bob.

It was pretty impressively purple enough prose, but whenever text starts appealing to my drama addiction, I take pause, especially if I've seen something to quibble with in there.
