Well, im back to make another rpg. This is a medieval-fantasy based game, pulling from the fantasy feel of classic pen and paper roleplaying games, including the legendary, mythical, and impossible things that come with fantasy.
The priest took a step forward and brought his hand up, palm out. White robes flowed around him, and his shaven head left little on him that was not white. He held no weapon, monks would touch nothing designed to damage anything, and neither would a priest. Standing before the main hold of the Temple of Illian, he held his hand out as if to order something away. Which was exactly what was occupying his time at the moment.
The small man held a dagger in one hand while with the other tightened the cloth around the lower half of his face so it would fall. Hood drawn up, he was the thief of every woman’s nightmares, complete with the poisonous, merciless stare. “Move, old man!”
“You shall not desecrate the Temple’s sacred rooms with your filthy footsteps! Depart at once and repent for you have sinned.” The priest stood there, unwilling to move, but would not act physically against the thief.
Abruptly, the hooded man jerked forward and drove the knife into the priest’s chest, with no resistance. Red blossomed around the hilt of the knife, and the priest toppled backward as blood spilled from the sides of his mouth. The thief rushed onward, stepping over the body, not really even caring about what he had done.
Soon, a tall, black-cloaked man came rushing around the corner and stepped over the body and followed after the thief. Running through the halls, the thief slowed to allow the cloaked man to catch up, and they both came into the main hold at the same time to be greeted by a dozen monks that looked up with surprise from their work.
With a shout, the thief plunged another knife into the chest of a nearby monk, causing him to crash over and tip the table sideways, spilling the scrolls and books that were stacked on top. The thief jumped from one to the other, not getting any resistance in return, killing each while the taller man stooped to examine the fallen items from the table.
“This is not the right room!” he screamed at the other. “It is not here!”
The thief pulled his knife from another victim and wiped it on his thigh. “Then where next?”
The tall man bolted from the room, the thief in pursuit as they came back down the hallway and turned down another corridor. The room within was larger and lined with bookshelves on all of the walls. A massive table stood in the center of the room, and two priests looked up in shock.
“What might you be doing in here? Get out at once!” one exclaimed while the other gawked at the thief rushing to silence them with his blade.
“This looks more like it.” the taller man said, pulling a wrinkled parchment from his pocket. “The room which holds, the Knowledge of time, ye shall find, the place of the now broken steel that pierced the Dragon’s soul.”
The thief simply backed off, not knowing what to do. It was the other that had the more intelligence, not he.
“The room which holds, the Knowledge of time. Ahh. The Holy Book. It should be in the library,” the tall man said with a shrug. “Ye shall find, the place of the now broken steel that pierced the Dragon’s soul. Steel? What would be steel here?”
“It can’t be a weapon or a piece of armor – they don’t use any.” The thief offered.
“But it must be. What else slays a dragon?”
“Why is it capitalized?”
“It is a name. It is the name of the Dark Lord.”
The thief nodded. “But what ‘pierced his soul’?” he asked.
The taller man looked around the room. Bookcases were on every wall, books lined perfectly to fill every space, and yet there were piles on the table. Blood stained bodies lay strewn around the floor, gaping with their last breath. A massive statue stood at the other end of the room, lit strangely by the windows above. Just then footsteps were heard behind them.
Two Temple Guards bolted in, swords jerking from their sheaths. The thief jumped backward to avoid steel swinging his way, and the tall man did likewise. Words spoken in a tongue unrecognizable to any in that room but the tall man himself came from his lips, as he raised his arms like a puppet. Abruptly, a flash of lightning illuminated the air before the man before zipping across the room and searing a hole through one of the guard’s chest, armor and all. The thief and the living guard stumbled their own ways, blinded by the lightning. The guard, when relieved of his blindness ran, unwilling to continue the hopeless fight.
After a moment of thought, the tall man rushed to the statue, where the stone-carved man stood with a shield in one hand and a sword raised to the sky. He read the description on the statue. “Elrith de Redrin Belan Emancc. Defender of the Light. Wielder of the Namril. Captain of the Borderguard. ” Frowning, he pondered this for a moment. “A sword pierces. And it is steel.”
“So it is on the statue?” the thief inquired.
“Not in the statue…”
Without even a moment’s notice, the thief jumped up to the statue and threw his weight up against the outstretched sword. With an effort, his weight made the wrist snap and the hand still holding the sword fell to the ground, shattering.
“It’s not here.” The thief said, shifting through the remains of the stone sword.
“It’s in the scabbard. ‘the place of the now broken steel that pierced the Dragon’s soul.’ It is the ‘place’ of the ‘now broken’ steel. In the Great War of the Black Ages Namril was broken. And now it rests within it’s scabbard in the White Fortress for safekeeping.” He laughed at the subtle joke. “And this scroll was here for ‘safekeeping’ as well. Check the scabbard. Gently.”
The thief looked at the scabbard at the statue’s waist but could find nothing. Finally, like the arm, he struck it and it shattered, leaving an aged scroll on the ground.
“Now. We must depart.” the tall man said, already striding over to his comrade to snatch the scroll.
Three more guards and a priest were killed on their escape.
The First Post of the Game (from the New Worlds forum)
Campaign Setting: The game will be played in my own world called Elyarith, and will be using a map I found on the internet here: http://www.wotmud.org/directory/maps/mainmap.jpg (the actual book that this map derives from has nothing to do with the rpg). The characters will be located in the city of Illian, on the south-most peninsula of Elyarith.
Genre: Medieval-Fantasy
Magic will not be permitted for use by the player characters.
Player characters may be of any “alignment” except absolute evil.
Come up with a character concept as well. Include some background on your history, personality and tendencies. Provide a description as to what you look like (body features, what are you wearing, and weapons and other items carried).
Other Rules: 1)) You should find a reason once the game starts for your character to want to participate in this mission, and to reasonably get along with the rest of the group in and out of character. 2)) All posts in the rpg thread are considered in-character. Everything that has little to do with the rpg itself must be posted must be done in the OOC. As for the in-character posting, all dialogue must be in quotations. 3)) You may control ONLY your own character, and you may not control NPCs as normal freestyling rpging allows.
Game Start: Please get me your characters to me as soon as possible via PM because I may have some questions. I’d like to start the game as soon as possible. Please do not post your character on either the OOC or the IC. It would be best to leave it off the forums and in PM only but you may put it in the characters forum if you wish.
When your character has been permitted to join, introduce yourself as a player (on the in-character thread), and tell the other players a bit about the character you will be playing. Do not reveal anything that is not apparent after simply looking at the character. Then, introduce your character (in-character) in the game thread. You may ask any questions about characters here in this forum.
As a note on my style, it will be important for you to read carefully what I write. This will not be a vanilla campaign of hack and slash with easily identified enemies who will stand in front of you for a fair fight. Not everything will be as it first seems, there may be some traps, and some villains and monsters are intelligent too. That being said, I want everyone to survive, prosper, and enjoy themselves!
In your Character Concept I would like to know the motivations and interests of your character, and some of its history. I will try to incorporate as much of that as possible into the game.
Check out the actual rpg forum for the beginning: http://foru.ms/t6183519-eye-of-the-beholder-ooc.html#post39261486.
Thanks for your participation, good luck and good gaming!

The First Post of the Game (from the New Worlds forum)
While walking around in Illian you notice a WANTED poster stating that there is a very substantial reward being offered for the capture of two thieves who broke into a temple and stole some scrolls, and who must stopped before they are able to use the scrolls. Those interested in participating in the posse are to meet at a warehouse near the docks at noon tomorrow. The address is given, but no other details are included.
You begin the RPG walking up to the warehouse.
It's been a dreary morning with on an off drizzle. Your character arrives at the warehouse, it is one of a series of attached stone structures near the port. The double wooden doors (as in a barn) were left open, and the 30 foot wide and 60 foot deep room is empty. Except for any characters that may have arrived before you. Once inside it seems like an echo chamber. The ceiling is arched in the center, about 20 feet high. Some people may arrive after you, but none is the person offering the reward so you continue to wait.
Players: When you are admitted into the RPG, post as you enter the warehouse. Feel free to introduce yourself as the character.
Campaign Setting: The game will be played in my own world called Elyarith, and will be using a map I found on the internet here: http://www.wotmud.org/directory/maps/mainmap.jpg (the actual book that this map derives from has nothing to do with the rpg).
