Explain Your Avatar

Mine is inspired by a true story written by an African hunting guide that appeared in Reader's Digest many years ago.

A wealthy American businessman chartered a hunting expedition, which included explicit instructions for his breakfast meals......cornflakes. The guide forgot to bring cornflakes and presented his client with a sumptuous breakfast of bacon and eggs the first morning out. Without a word the client sat back, folded his arms, and grimly stared off at the morning horizon. After a few moments of confusion and indecision the guide got into his Land Rover and drove the two hours back to Nairobi, purchased the cornflakes, and returned to camp to find his client in the same chair as he left him. Upon serving the cornflakes the client's face brightened and the hunt proceeded without a further mention of the incident.
As a my-way-or-the-highway guy I was inspired by this story. I'm still waiting for the world to do things my way.

Mine is of Orel from the short lived animated series Morel Orel on Adult Swim. Every episode is about Orel asking the Christian members of his town what Bible passages mean, and how best to be a Christian. There is very rarely a good response, and much of what he hears is simply terrible advice based on strange interpretations of both passages from the Bible and from people's imaginations. And I felt that was a pretty accurate representation of these forums. Thus my comparison of CF to Moralton in the caption.

Sounds like it is a story about an unreasonable guy who is perfectly willing to waste four hours for a bowl of cornflakes.

Is a bowl of cornflakes really worth four hours?

Four hours is a small price to pay for one's integrity.

My avatar ... I put together on an avatar-creation site, on the basis of my hair color, eye color, skin tone, personality, etc. I like it a lot better than my photograph.
And also... I'm 53. By now, I look a bit worse for wear.
And I value a bit of privacy. I'd rather not splash my photo, address, etc., around on the internet.

My avatar is a picture that I took during a lightning storm. The original photo had a power line running through it so I zapped it in Photoshop and I can't be bothered finding it at the moment.

Perhaps his daily cornflakes contributed to his success, and he wanted his safari to be successful. People are strange like that. He also gave explicit instructions regarding breakfast to his guide. It was a battle of wills in the end, and he won. Bully for him.

To him, it was more than just cornflakes. It was about who was the boss, him or his guide.
He won.
Sigh. I grew up in a family where it was always a game of domination. Seeing who could be boss.
I'm so glad I am no longer in such a situation.

I'm so glad I am no longer in such a situation.

I thought it was classy of him not to mention the incident again. He made his point and left it at that. I'm sure that he then placed himself in the capable hands of his guide.

My avatar is taken from a Sci Fi art site and shows a planet from the perspective of the moon that's orbiting it. Like looking up at Saturn from the surface of the moon Titan. I chose it because I like the color blue and because of the tranquility it conveys.
