If you were a smoker and quit what was your secret to quitting?

I told my co-workers that if they caught me smoking they could key my car.If you were a smoker and quit what was your secret to quitting?
Yes, association with past activities does bring it back. Best to avoid certain situations for a while until it passes (and it will). People no doubt even find intimacy more fulfilling if they are not rushing through to get to that cigarette.it is purely a mental battle.

Yes, no harm in seeking support, although it would be better if someone were not to make a business out of it.That is where information and a support group help to understand what your triggers are and how to be ready to walk through them.
Agreed - and I case you are wondering, I have no affiliation with the suggested support links I posted, just what I used and helped me.Yes, no harm in seeking support, although it would be better if someone were not to make a business out of it.

Agree, that is a very good book.Allen Carr wrote a book "The Easy Way" which has helped millions.
I quit about 2 years ago, my wife and I quit together, it was so expensive. We used On packs, these are still nicotein but like tiny flavored tea bags kept on the gum of the mouth. I couldn't use the chewable gum, I would chew myself into lockjaw. Still using the packs, but they are *a lot* cheaper and cleaner and I presume healthier. We took the money we were using for cigs and started dumping it into a savings account. 2 people at a pack and a half or so a day is 90 packs a month. At $10 a pack, $900 a month...
In 2 years we had over $20,000 in that account... down now from that peak, we have used it for down payment on new car, vacation, replace air conditioner in house that died...
Still using it and it's still growing.
I highly recommend it (quitting by whatever means necessary and dumping the money into savings)
Be careful, if the packs are similar to chewing tobacco, there are lots of reports of mouth cancer.
Here is a comment I got from a friend when I asked about packs:Yeah, it would definitely be best to be off them entirely.
I'd have to disagree since i quit using the gum and prayer.Nicotine dependency is an addiction plain and simple.
There is a lot of money spent on keeping the person addicted, including the nicotine replacement products that have a less than 20% success rate. If you want a long agonizing withdrawal that keep you strung along and usually does not work use them. (you got addicted to the gum, because it contains nicotine, that's what you are trying to get out of your system).

Also - some self help groups do help support the process.
The highest success rate is how I quit, cold turkey, the nicotine is out of your system in 3 days (physical withdrawals not bad if you are prepared) and after 3 days it is purely a mental battle.
The snus packets differ from traditional snuff in that the product is pasteurized (rather than fermented as is typical for ”American” snuff), this cuts way down on the tobacco specific nitrosamines which are the main component that cause most cancers.Be careful, if the packs are similar to chewing tobacco, there are lots of reports of mouth cancer.
I see the company making On Packs the same as the big tobacco companies, both seek to get people addicted to nicotine for profit, usually the youth. The snus packets differ from traditional snuff in that the product is pasteurized (rather than fermented as is typical for ”American” snuff), this cuts way down on the tobacco specific nitrosamines which are the main component that cause most cancers.
