Hopefully she will quit Hovind when she realizes all the errors and missinformation he provides, and hopefully she will also realize that his claim that it's Christianity vs Evolution is also one of those errors.

Dawkins? We want her to learn proper science, not scar her. Dawkins is a good scientists but he lacks a certain kind of tact, that allows his words to be easily missunderstood, especially if you still partially believe in the evil atheist evolutionist conspiracy.

What about Bill Bryson's Short History of Nearly Everything? He's a great writer, with prose that is downright amiable toward the reader. He presents scientific history factually, but without ever belittling creationism. I haven't finished the book yet, but I'm learning a lot about how scientists made their discoveries and exactly what those discoveries are. Among many other things, he spends some time talking about how scientists slowly discovered the true age of the earth. Even Christians scientists believed the world was old. He also writes about science that has nothing to do with evolution or the formation of the universe--stuff that's just interesting for whatever reason.

The only warning I can give is that Bryson uses the occasional swear word to spice things up. But if you don't mind that, Jenny, and you like to read about science, I think you'll really enjoy this book.

So you belive that humans evolved from apes? Have you seen this happen?
And you belive that the earth is millions of years old?

1. What do you mean "apes"? Could you be more specific?

2. We don't need to always see everything to believe in it. For example, I've never been to Australia, but given everything that I do know first-hand, I can safely assume that Australia exists.

It's true. I was just rattling off scientists who have written popular books on evolution without thinking about their theological bent.

Yes I believe that Humans and modern apes share a common ancestor and that the earth is billions of years old.
I believe this because of the evidence. I don't need to be there to see it happen. A forensic scientist doesn't have to be at the crime to figure out who did it, because the evidence left behind can show them what happened. Just the same, the huge amount of evidence all fits together and says the earth is billions of years old and Humans and modern apes share a common ancestor.

The earth could be "millions" of years old. There is a huge amount of evidence to indicate that the earth has been around a while. Of course the old earth that was here before was a lot different than the earth that is here now. For example during the ice age there was a lot more land down south and a lot more ice up north. Things have changed quite a bit in the last 12,000 years.

Exactly. I believe in God though I have never seen him and I have enough evidence to safely assume that God exists and made the world in 7 days.

Yes, showing us this evidence might help you understand why you should drop some of the sources you are using.

Keep in mind that we have probably heard some of it before.
Pretty much every piece of evidence Hovind uses to claim the earth is young is false. Some can even be falsified by stepping outside at night on a clear day and looking up.

It's mainly incase my memory is wrong.

A few of his evidences (technically not his since most are butchered from Henry Morris' book from the 70's) are close to valid, they just don't show a young earth.
