As most of you know by now, the main difference between a classic-liberal and a woke-leftist is that the former believes in free-speech. In 1965, most communist revolutionary groups in the United States meekly begged to have a small voice in the academy or public forum. Meanwhile in the Church at that time, Pope Paul VI was a tortured soul who seemed hesitant to give free-reign to heretics. At the same time, he could not bring himself to silence most of them. (Maybe he was one himself.) Now in 2022, leftists force silence upon any dissenting voices on the right in the US. But things are even more shocking in the Catholic Church than the US government: Just this year, an African priest was silenced and suspended for criticizing the Vatican regime’s favorable stance towards same-sex civil-unions.
How did the left go from begging for a small-voice to demanding the death of anyone on the right? Archbishop Chaput once wrote, “Evil preaches tolerance until it is dominant, and then it tries to silence good.” Most classic-liberals have become leftists not because they changed their stripes, but because it’s strategically advantageous for them to pursue totalitarianism, especially now that they have become the dominant force in Western society. The heretics in Rome and the communists in the United States meekly begged in the 1960s for tolerance from the right. But now that the left has gained power through lying and fake-elections, their one-goal is to silence the good people who actually have evidence of the truth.
Obviously, I disagree with Elon Musk on numerous matters of theology and morality. But the reason I support his recent purchase of Twitter is because he is fighting for free-speech. Is support of “tolerance of free-speech” the same as an acceptance of Vatican II’s “religious-liberty”? No. I reject the modernist notion of “religious liberty” precisely because error has no rights. Rights come from God and God can not give rights to follow a false-religion. The Catholic Church has never believed in forced-conversions, so in some sense she believes in religious-tolerance, but never religious-liberty. At least, not before Vatican II.
