• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I avoid national politics. Especially reading about it. I try to think local where I can see impact.

Hey!!!! Thanks!!! I just figured out the problem with world peace. huh

It's too much communication on topics that are irrelevant to daily living. The downfall of society is people focusing on issues where they feel powerless to impact. Not enough focus on how to deal. How to deal when your black or white or wealthy or poor. Just how to deal.

Again you believe this because the bible says it is so. And you believe the bible is true because the HS says so as evidenced in the bible. Flawed logic is not a good reason to believe anything.

All this is evidence of is that people believe God exists. Not that God actually does exist.

IOW, it's a confirmation bias fallacy - if you heal after praying to be divinely healed, you'll attribute it to a divine healer. Nevertheless, the result is statistically the same as if you hadn't prayed.

That is a requirement. It's important that you not feel like you can heal others.
That's more important than healing others. It wouldn't be safe to have such powers.

The question then reduces to, "Why that particular faith and not another?"
Faith is faith.

You can have faith in Mommy, faith in Daddy, faith in Law, faith in God.
Faith is trust in things not visible.

I didn't make a request, I simply stated the logical implications of the situation as stated.

If there was more or better healing as a result of prayer, it might be divisive, but as it happens, it doesn't seem to happen - unless the claim is that those who believe in the efficacy of prayer to heal would heal significantly less well than average if they didn't pray...

There is only one God. What names people use and their explanation of God is based on local culture.
Even Jews don't have the same thinking as Christians for example.

In your personal unevidenced opinion.

According to sources you believe and have faith in anyway......they report no difference.
Perhaps some ballots were not counted.

Yes, I got that; I thought you were implying that it could work on the individual who was praying to be healed...

I provisionally accept the evidence of well-conducted random control trials and meta-analyses. If prayer was shown to be beneficial for healing, it would be very useful - whatever the causality. ISTR the disappointment after studies into whether a positive attitude would aid recovery from cancer showed that it didn't...

I notice you bolded 'report' - are you implying that there might have been positive effects that were not reported?

I provisionally accept that the studies overall were not misleading and were sufficiently well conducted to detect significant differences, had there been any.

It seems the equivocation game with " faith"
will never end, until the theists realize it weakens their case.

Again you believe this because the bible says it is so. And you believe the bible is true because the HS says so as evidenced in the bible. Flawed logic is not a good reason to believe anything.

The HS communicates with no Bible needed.
