• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I have been struggling very much with this. Everything i want to do my mind convinces me it's a sin. Want to watch a debate? That's arguing, thats a sin. Want to take a nap? You're lazy, that's a sin. Are you sure this item you have isn't illegal/bought from an imoral money source? Want to eat a fruit? That's gluttony, that's a sin. Would Jesus do that, would Jesus do this? And if i don't give attention to those thoughts its because i think it's ok to sin.

Which has been making me a "bit" legalistic, the thing that Jesus talked again the most. What do i do? Biblical comment and practical advice would be appreciated.

:)

Jesus participated in debates ... and took naps. He celebrated with us (the wedding at Cana) ... and He hung out with undesirables.

Stop worrying about sinning ... and live the life that Jesus died for. The Holy Spirit Who dwells within you will warn you from sin as necessary ...

"I have come that they might have life ... and have more abundantly.". John 10:10b

What you are going through is nothing new....this was the big crisis for Luther. He was so ate up with sin-awareness his priest told him he did not have to go to confession every time he passed gas! He finally learned “the righteous by FAITH shall live......believe the promises of God......God put your sins on the cross—-leave them there! Here’s some practical advice. If you have a lustful thought, that proves you are a sinner, as guilty as an adulterer ,that sin is on the cross.if you have a lustful thought and proceed to actually commit abultery, that sin is on the cross, but dont whine if you grt a case of the crabs....or worse.Practice faith, that’s your part....with A combination of being changed by the Holy Spirit and undergoing chastisement ,sin will decrease over time...that is Gods part.Relax a little friend,as a Believer, your fate is sealed, thanks to Jesus you have already w on the battle, how you handle your Freedom in Christ determines how rough the battle is.

I just can't stop thinking. I wish i could. Every time i think i remember something I've done or do that might be a sin. It's eating my life away.
Just remember that Jesus died for ALL of our sins. I struggle with this too and it's really hard trying to be perfect because we can not be. I believe that as long as we have placed our faith in Jesus as our Lord and Savior and know that only He can save us, we will be able to rest better in Him. God bless you and Jesus is Lord.

Rejoice! Millions in hell at this moment never gave a thought to sin.....you are half-way home....you know you sin....”ANYBODY that asks to be saved WILL be saved”. Believe it and rest in what He did for you.

Except people with OCD are often hyper-aware of sin. To where they think everything is a sin. That's not healthy. But it is true that He died for us.

I've been worrying about the law, not in a sense of killing and stealing, but my country has SO MANY laws (many of them are pure bureaucracy or just senseless) and some of them conflict with some of my parents teachings. Jesus tells us to obey the government, but i can't possibly do that 100% of the time. Or can i? But i don't want to be a rebel either. The bad thing is, there is no closure to this. Some laws are like "you can't put salt in your table in a restaurant" (am not kidding). If i do that for example, am i sinning? I have no idea and can't know for sure. May i stop worrying? My latest logic is "if that was a sin the Holy Spirit would've convicted me a long time ago", but what if I'm using that as an excuse, what if I'm wrong, what if I'm trying to accuse God of sinning or contradiction, what if what if what if

He did die for all my sins but if i remember a certain law and don't keep it am i not disrespecting Him?

I think i think too much.

Any “disrespect” is covered....it is on the cross....most of the Bible was written by murderers....all of the them (Moses,David and Paul) are saved....have you committed murder yet?

Do the best that you can ... and remember, you are God's child.

It's not up to you to get everything right. As you grow in your relationship with God, He will help you to do better and better.

It's not just you anymore. It's you and Him together. Continue to learn about Him and trust Him to lead you rightly.

Listen to His words ... from Matthew 11:28-30

"Come to Me, all you who strive so valiantly and are burdened down ...
and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in spirit, and you will find rest for your souls.

For my yoke is easy ... and my burden is light.

LOL a very typical example of OCD. We do think too much, and we do expect ourselves to be perfect. That's where we have to loosen up a little, and focus more on what we know than what we don't know. Because we tend to focus too much on figuring out what we don't know what to do about (usually trivial matters!) and sometimes ignore what we actually know to do. I'm still trying to figure all of this out myself, but the truth is, there's no formula to figure out when something is our conscience and when it's OCD. Generally speaking, I think that if it's something we should do, we'll know it, and if we don't know what to do, it's not that big of a deal, and we can ask God about it and trust Him to change us over time. Growing in Christ and in holiness is a process, and we can rest in Christ's perfectness and His grace to cover our imperfections as we grow in Him.
