• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I know we have the ability to slightly focus on so many things at once that we don't get anything done. Well, after reading Dr. Daniel Amen's book on ADD, I decided to time myself while cleaning. I set the timer for 20 minutes to clean the living room, and I ended up cleaning the dining room and my bedroom all within that time. Making it a game and having a time limit seemed to help me focus better than ever. Can anyone relate?

Completely! I have used this technique for awhile and it works very well. I use it a lot when I am warming something up in the microwave or cooking something in the oven to do small chores like load and unload the dishwasher, put away groceries, or clean off cabinets. I always find that I can get a lot more accomplished when I set a time limit. Otherwise I wander aimlessly around the house cleaning one thing here, another thing there... at the end of the day I am exhausted but I feel like I haven't accomplished anything.

I see I need to go and acquire this book. I had not even thought about timing myself on things... I can totally relate to the whole "end of the day .. exhausted.. feel like I haven't accomplished anything" thing.

Heh.. I had fully intended to lurk the forums for a few days to get a feel for it, but you two pulled me in!

*makes a physical note in his little black book with regards to Dr. Daniel Amen, because it will likely go the way of Goldfish Memory if I dont*
