Barber's Adagio for Strings is very evocative. I also love Richard Wagner's 'Vorspeil' intro for The Ring. What does 'Nibelungen' mean anyway?

The German Nibelungen and the corresponding Old Norse form Niflung (Niflungr) is the name in Germanic and Norse mythology of the royal family or lineage of the Burgundians who settled at Worms. The vast wealth of the Burgundians is often referred to as the Niblung or Niflung hoard. In some German texts Nibelung appears instead as one of the supposed original owners of that hoard, either the name of one of the kings of a people known as the Nibelungs, or in variant form Nybling, as the name of a dwarf. In Richard Wagner's opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen, Nibelung is used to mean "dwarf".

Mascagni's opera Cavalleria Rusticana brings me to tears every time.

Rachmaninoff is one of my very favorite composers... His Rhapsody on a Theme from Paganini (18th Variation) is one of my favorite pieces of music.

I played this in high school - the full version - not a simplified one... Polichinelle by Rachmaninoff:

Rachmaninoff is hard to play - he had such big hands and his chords are ridiculous. I had to leave a few notes out of some of the chords because I have tiny hands. I have to stretch to reach an octave and many of his go several notes over an octave.

This was my last piano recital piece in high school - Warsaw Concerto by Richard Addinsell.

Fantasy Impromptu by Chopin - another of my faves. I played a VERY simplified version of this for my first piano recital.

and finally - one of the saddest, most haunting pieces of music I have ever played. Prelude in E Minor by Chopin

(was going to post YouTube links, but I don't have a high enough post count... go look them up if you're not familiar with them... you won't be sorry!!)

This is another one. I discovered it when it was sung as a the hymn for communion. It's in the red Lutheran Service Book (Concordia).

"The Lamb"
by Gerald Coleman

Stanza 1
The Lamb, the Lamb,
O Father, where's the sacrifice?
Faith sees, believes
God will provide the Lamb of price!
Worthy is the Lamb Whose death makes me His own!
The Lamb is reigning on His throne!

Stanza 2
The Lamb, the Lamb,
One perfect final offering.
The Lamb, the Lamb,
Let earth join heav'n His praise to sing.
Worthy is the Lamb Whose death makes me His own!
The Lamb is reigning on His throne!

Stanza 3
The Lamb, the Lamb,
As wayward sheep their shepherd kill
So still, His will
On our behalf the Law to fill.
Worthy is the Lamb Whose death makes me His own!
The Lamb is reigning on His throne!

Stanza 4
He sighs, he dies,
He takes my sin and wretchedness.
He lives, forgives,
He gives me His own righteousness.
Worthy is the Lamb Whose death makes me His own!
The Lamb is reigning on His throne!

Stanza 5
He rose, He rose,
My heart with thanks now overflows.
His song prolong
Till ev'ry heart to Him belong.
Worthy is the Lamb Whose death makes me His own!
The Lamb is reigning on His throne!
