  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Wow - thanks for starting out with easy questions. :p
◘ When you are ninety-five years old, what will you want to be able to say about your life?
That I was a good mom, grandmother, great-grandmother. I want to be remembered for having a strong faith, compassion and concern for others, and a generous spirit.

When people think of the fruits of the Spirit, I want them to think of me.

○ What do you consider 'too personal' to discuss with most other people?

If I told you then I would be discussing it with you. :p Actually, there's not much I wouldn't discuss that is within tactful reason - I'm pretty much an open book, b/c I never know when my experiences could positively impact another person.

◘ Would you be willing to spend one year of your life in complete happiness if you knew you would never be able to remember any of it? Why or why not?

No. Complete happiness would be a wonderful thing, but it's the valleys in life that shape our character and strengthen our faith. If I was completely happy, I would have no motivation to pursue personal growth - which is something we should do until we die.

○ If you were engaged and your fiancé became a quadriplegic, would you still go through with the marriage?

If I have made a commitment to love a person "for better or for worse, in sickness and in health" then I'm going to stay with them, even and especially, if something that life-changing occurs.

◘ How would you react if you found out that a close friend was infected with HIV/AIDS?

I actually have a close friend (he's gay) that is HIV positive. A while back, when he was hospitalized for some health compications, I told another close friend that I suspected that was the problem - and, sadly, he was diagnosed shortly thereafter. :(

Welcome to FTB!

Thanks!! :D

Would you move to another country for someone you deeply love?

It would depend on the country and if the move was permanent.

○ How many times during the day do you look at yourself in the mirror?

HAHA - A lot, but I'm mostly busy criticizing myself when I am, so I try to steer clear of mirrors. :sorry:

◘ Before making a telephone call, do you rehearse what you're going to say?

If I need to, yes. If I think I may have to leave a message, I definitely do so I can leave a concise message and not sound scattered.

○ If you could commit one crime without being caught, what crime would it be?

Shoplifting - I need a new Fall wardrobe! :p

◘ If you could be guaranteed one thing in life other than money, what would it be?

No harm would ever come to my children.

◘ Have you ever not asked someone out because you were afraid of rejection?

I had a guy that I was friends with basically tell me that he would date me if I asked him out, but I couldn't bring myself to ask b/c I was convinced that I misunderstood what he said and would turn me down if I asked him out.

○ Are you a 'freak' about cleanliness and/or organization?

Heck yes! Unfortunately, small children are really good at making sure things are never 100% clean or organized...so I freak even more about how "messy" my house is!

◘ If u were kidnapped and could bring one personal possession with you, what would you bring?

My cell phone so I could call someone to come rescue me! :p

○ So many people don't know that...

I'm a survivor of an abusive childhood and an abusive marriage.

◘ If you could replace one historic world figure, who would it be and what would you do differently?

Hitler - need I say more?

If you were an educator, what age group or level would you want to teach? What subject would you be most interested in teaching?

I would love to teach 3rd grade. Although, I enjoy early childhood, as well. I love reading/writing and would thoroughly enjoy teaching those subjects!

○ If you could open your own business, what would it be? Why would you choose this?

I would love to have a business that makes meals for new mothers. I even have a name for it. :D I came up with the idea a while ago after my sons were born and no one brought meals to us when we got home from the hospital. Everyone I know these days seems willing to buy a service, but doesn't have time to actually do something themselves. I would even offer baby shower specials.

◘ Would you rather live in a rural or urban setting?
Small town on the outskirts of a bigger city.

What are the positives and negatives of both?
I love the convenience of a big city, but dislike the congestion - I'm not a big "crowd" person. I love the peace and quiet of the country - and the fact that you can see a billion stars at night, but I like being close to "civilization".

○ What is something you do that most people would consider odd?

I refuse to use a sponge to wipe off counters or wash dishes. It's a germaphobe thing. LOL
◘ What is your oddest phobia? Why are you afraid of this? Have you ever tried to overcome your fear?

I have a fear of sea creatures. :sorry: I love the water and I am a strong swimmer...I just get completely frozen with panic when I am in a body of water where animals live (lakes, oceans). I think watching the movie JAWS as a child is what stemmed this irrational fear. LOL I tried snorkeling in Cancun once to overcome my fear, but practically hyperventilated b/c there was a barracuda about 50 feet below me that was staring at me the whole time. It doesn't help any that I know a girl that was bitten by a shark last summer.

Wow... That is definitely unique! I don't think that I have ever heard of that before. Perhaps you should look into getting a small business loan. ;)

Hi flnativegrl!

What is one unfulfilled dream that you have carried from childhood and still hope that it will some day come true?

I want to swim with the dolphins. I came THISCLOSE one time, but couldn't participate b/c I was pregnant. I actually might get a chance to fulfill this dream in the very near future with a friend of mine. :D

◘ How do you believe evangelists such as Jim Bakker, Ted Haggard, and Jim Jones have impacted the view of Christianity?

I have a problem in general with televangelism and/or preachers that are dramatic/theatrical about their preaching. Keep it simple, TEACH the word, and sow seeds.

○ Which soap opera do you think would best portray your life? Why?

Hopefully none of them! Too much drama and I really try to avoid drama in my life as much as possible.

◘ Which serial killer (ie. Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Jack the Ripper) fascinates you the most? Why? If you could ask this person one question, what would it be?

Ted Bundy. He used human compassion to lure his victims by faking injuries or making it look like he needed assistance with something. He also was a very "normal" looking person who would never arouse suspicion. I would want to know if he would have committed the crimes if he knew it would land him in the electric chair eventually.

○ Do you enjoy watching horror movies? Do these types of movies have a lasting affect on you?

NOooooooOOOOooo!! I watch scary movies from behind my fingers. :p I have a very active imagination, so they do tend to have a lasting impact on me if they are "real" enough.

◘ What do you think to fear God means? Do you believe it is simply respecting God and His power, or does it mean to literally fear Him? Why do you believe this?

I think it means to fear his omnipresence. Knowing that He sees all/knows all makes *me* less likely to sin b/c I know I can't hide it from Him. I'd rather not have to ask for forgiveness for things I've done - I'd prefer just not to do them!

If you won $1,000,000 what would you do with it?

I would give a large portion of it to charity. I would probably set up a "scholarship" fund for abuse survivors (men, women, and children) to help them get on their feet again after leaving an abusive situation.

What are your thoughts on the state of public schools?

Don't get me started on FCAT! I think part of the problem in schools isn't so much the schools as it is the parents, tho. Too many parents don't have a clue about their children's academic careers and don't make it a priority and/or teach their children to make it a priority.

What are your thoughts on private schools?

Same issues as public school, just with a more expensive twist. Again, I think the quality of education is largely reliant upon the involvement of the parents.

What are you thoughts on homeschooling?

I am not against it and even considered it for my own children before becoming a single mom. I only have two reservations about it - parents that are not well-equipped to homeschool (I know a 10 y/o that can barely read b/c her mom isn't an effective homeschool teacher) and social integration issues for the kids if they are not exposed to things like team sports or some sort of peer group environment.

What are your three main sources of news? (be specific, don't say tv - say what network, don't say newspaper - say what newspaper, don't say internet - say what site....)

I read my local newspaper, I use msn.com for headlines when I get the chance, and I watch NBC or CBS for evening news when I get the chance. I don't have a lot of spare time to keep up with the news, so I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to world events at the moment. I prefer not to know some things, tho - news today is either all doom and gloom or celebrity gossip, neither of which I find very enlightening/uplifting.
