  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

and struggle to do that which I should.

even the apostle paul struggled with the flesh, the carnal things, the things we just do because we are human.

If we focus on sin and defeating sin by ourselves we struggle more, we fall, eventually we mat never get back up and stop trying, we may blame iur church or even Jesus.

If anyone gets up in the morning and thinks today i will not eat chocolate, ten minutes later, i will not eat chocolate, 12 minutes later i will not eat chocolate 30 minutes later you are in the cupboard looking for chocolate or down the store buying some.

if we put something that much in to focus we crave it, we don't bend it to our will usually it bends us to its will.

I think it is the same with sin.

If we constantly focus on our smoking, drinking or whatever we perceive as our problem it will get bigger and bigger and become a mountain.

If we realise we are saved by Grace, we have the free gift of righteousness, we focus on our saviour, our Jesus, the solution not the problem, before we know it even with out realising the problem has gone.

if we learnt to rest in the finished work of Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith we will still come in to various trials but we will get through victorious because we see the solution not the problem.

my yoke is easy my burden is light, my peace I leave with you, this is why Jesus wants us to believe and trust on him and ficus on him, when you do this the enemy and his play ground will shrink and wither.

Yes, I notice that in Hebrews 12:1-2 when it says to lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily besets us it continues by saying "looking unto Jesus the Author and finisher of our faith."

So it is very true that the writer of Hebrews did not say looking unto our sin but rather looking unto Jesus. If we focus on our sin all the time and upon how to avoid it .... the more we think about it the more we are drawn toward it. The key, I think, is to look at Jesus and draw near to Him. The key is to remember the gospel...how He died for us and covered our sins with His blood and has saved us and justified us by His grace and not by our works. When we do that... when we rest and trust in His blood... we have assurance of our salvation. That gives us gratitude and Love for God. When we have gratitude and love for God the desire for sin begins melting away...

The more we think about Christ the less we think about sin. And the more we simply trust Christ and believe that He has already delivered us from the power of sin in our lives... the more we have victory over it. The more we simply work and try to overcome sin the more we will fail. So faith is the victory. Believing that Christ has redeemed us and saved us apart from our works and believing that When Christ died He crucified our old man and has accomplished the mortal blow to sin in our lives is the key.

I am certainly far from perfect but I do think that the key is to look to Christ and draw near to Him and to trust and believe that not only is our salvation by His work at the cross and not by ours... but also our deliverence from sin is by His work at the cross by which He put to death our old man and broke sin's dominion over us. By simply believing that because of what Jesus did we don't have to give in to sin we are more and more sanctified.

When a soul is saved by real faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, that one is "forgiven", "born of the Spirit", "saved", given "eternal life", and "sealed" as a "child of God"; however, we don't get rid of the old nature --our natural flesh, which always likes to indulge self. Satan will always seek to stir up the flesh to dishonor God and draw one away to the world.

The remedy is surely as the Prophet said: "Thou will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee" (Isa. 26). God gave faithful saints a new spiritual life and nature, but left the old one so we can learn to trust and honor God, which God wants to see in His children.
