  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I realise not many people here are interested or even know that the Euro 2016 football tournament kicks off tonight with
France v Romania in Paris.
24 countries are taking part and it last for a month, tens of millions of people will be watching throughout the month.

I just thought I would tell you in case you might enjoy it.

What's the best site to see the most games online?

Anyone watching England-Russia on ESPN? At the start of the game, I could've sworn the announcer said they spent 300 million on the stadium's new roof. I think he said dollars but maybe it was euros? But 300 million on a roof alone? I'm thinking I must have misheard.

Hmmmm...when I ready our post I thought "there's no way" but then I checked and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stade_Vélodrome#Current_Situation yeah, that's how much they spent on the renovation, not just a new roof, but renovating a lot of the stadium. Sounds insane to me, I mean brand new, state of the art stadiums are built for much less.

I've been following The US and Argentina in the Copa America. Watched them crush Panama in a 5-0 win yesterday and The US beat Paraguay 1-0 today, so I'm happy.

Not sure what any of this has to do with American politics, though.

Now through to the semis I gather, after a pretty comfortable win over Ecuador. Clint Dempsey is having a good tournament.

I was amazed that Brazil failed to make the knockout stages. They must be devastated. And the Argentinians must be licking their lips!

On this side of the pond no team has really shone yet. England fought back from a goal down to beat Wales yesterday afternoon; both countries stopped working for the afternoon, probably costing us billions in lost production!

Dempsey and really, the whole US team are having a great tournament. I honestly am happy to see the US doing so well but now that they're up against Argentina, it's actually put me in an akward position with my family now that I have no choice but to go for the US!

I have to admit to a bit of schadenfreude over their elimination. I know they'd be feeling it for us equally if the reverse were true.

I wish I knew more Euro teams. Though I'm not huge on soccer anyway. I just like when one of my national teams is doing well in a tourney. It's strange to me how people can be so passionate about this game around the world. Around here, you'd hardly notice the US was even in the competition if you weren't looking.

Mixed loyalties, huh? Well if you're supporting the US, then all your boys need to do is shut down Messi. Good luck with that!

Has he had a good tournament? When he's on top form he is incredible to watch. A real magician. Though actually, Argentina has many other great players, which indicates the scale of the challenge facing the US team. It's later today, right?

There's nothing wrong with enjoying your rivals' misfortune!

Well, you guys have your own sports, which you love. The only thing I think is a pity is that you don't get to follow more international competitions. You only need to look at how much Americans love the Olympics, or the Ryder Cup, as evidence of the fact that Americans love to cheer on their country in international competitions, just like the rest of us, so it's a bit of a shame that you don't get to do this with the sports you love most.

I'm assuming you already know how that game ended... It's bitter sweet. I definitely wanted the US to win but I also knew full well what we were up against. The good thing is, I secretly wanted Argentina to win either way so I'm still happy with the results. The (clearly) superior team won and that's how it should be. Now I no longer have to hear it over and over from my entire family for supporting US!

Now a nice break then onto the real challenge.... Chile!

No, not at all. Especially if we're talking about Brazil!

Speaking personally, I'm not really big on our most popular sports (football/baseball/basketball) either. Soccer is a big one because family and culture just requires it of me but for example, my 'sport' in high school was always skateboarding. Aside from that, motorsports (rally and formula one) interest me but not much else so you can see now, my options for cheering on my country are rather limited. I do however enjoy the Olympics and we do tend to do well in that but until they come around, they might as well not exist as far as I know.

Sorry how it ended. I feel bad for Messi, it never works out for him internationally. He will never be favourably compared with Maradona, even though I don't think there is that much to separate them in terms of ability, because Maradona won things for Argentina, and Messi has not.

I must admit I am very happy for Iceland, even if it is one of the most surprising team of the Euro! Now, if they win against us on the 3rd July.. Well..
I never saw so many jokes about England since the Icelandic victory yesterday.

Italy/Germany seems interesting. Two of my favorite teams.
