Hey, has anyone here played around with Kali? It is a version of Linux loaded with hundreds and hundreds of hacking tools, I took a college course in Penetration Testing and my professor introduced me to this! You can download it for free on the internet! Get good with Zenmap, Nmap, metasploit, and armitage and you will be an IT force to be reckoned with! With these skills you might get a nice raise! I have 4 cheap laptops, I am using 1 with Kali for offense and the other 3 on the same network for defense, I am teaching myself hacking with this! It has been coming very easily, I think God is teaching me ethical hacking! If you are a pro with Kali employers will snap you right up, starting salary is over $90,000/year! It is fun too!

Good for you. We need ethical hackers to protect networks. But pity the foolish script kitty who uses Kali to do something illegal. She'd be busted fast. The real and dangerous unethical hackers are way beyond Kali.

Yeah you can do some serious damage with Kali if you are not careful, can crash processes on the target machine if you do a hail-mary attack with armitage.

But you probably don't know enough not to have the NSA knocking at your door within the hour. I don't either.

Sounds like a great way to enhance your job skills without having to pay for expensive college courses!

On a somewhat related note, I heard of a company that hired an ethical hacker as a consultant to test their security. They had excellent security, but he still got in. How? He left a flash drive in the men's room. Someone got curious and plugged it into their company computer, and that was that :D

A friend brought me a few USB sticks he got as gifts from an unclassified defense expo. We carefully plugged it into an airgapped Raspberry Pi and inspected the contents. On one of the USB sticks, in the .Trash folder, were materials that really shouldn't have been there. Classic PEBKAC error.

I love the idea of finding USB sticks or CDs with unknown contents. But yes, definitely plug it into a "safe" computer :D
