  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Just wondering if anyone here may have checked out the new ESV Reformation Study Bible available through Sprouls' Ligonier Ministries?

If so what'd ya think?

I have had the Reformation Study Bible (RSB) for about 3 weeks and find it to be easy to read, and from all reports, a good word-for-word translation. For many years my primary Bible was the Matthew Henry Study Bible in KJV translation. It was very good and I was comfortable with it but I like the RSB.

If you decide to buy it or any other Bibles or books, check Monergism Books first. The RSB in leather is about $46 at Monergism and $69 elsewhere.

As CoffeeSwirls said, check out Macrina's review.

Bought mine at monergismbooks.com and received it within 3-4 days with my name imprinted. It was a good deal. I enjoy it and I am enjoying the flow of the ESV. It's a good study bible. Once I discovered (last week) that the other study bibles I have were not Reformed and actually promote a very jaded view of scripture I was encouraged I spent the money on the RSB.

If you don't have the Geneva or New Geneva then from what I've read here it would be a good choice to buy the RSB.

Hey, why does the ESV leave out some texts?

Does it? Look in your footnotes and see if they're there. Some verses vary in their reliability as original texts and so they are sometimes placed as footnotes rather than left in the main body of text. If anything, some bibles leave in texts that shouldn't warrant such attention, ones that deserve to be shown as of less certain authenticity.
