  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've not seen the movie, Marty. Though I hope there will be an Ernest Borgnine scheduled for TV soon, so I can revise that condition.

Now and then I find the old McHale's Navy episodes playing on TVLand or some such channel.

He enjoyed a great long life and will be beloved long after his passing. So too with Andy Griffith.

At least we still have the great Christopher Lee on board. And he's still acting.

Rest in peace, Ernest. And thank you for the memories.

Amber, I hope you do get a chance to see Marty. It won academy awards for best actor, best picture, best director, and best writing (I had to look that up).

The movie role is quite a departure for Borgnine, and a huge departure for Hollywood, It portrays an average looking guy in a poor to middle class family who stirs things up a bit trying to find a decent life for himself. He goes against friends and family just to be himself, and it wasn't easy. He was outgoing and friendly, and people took advantage of him. Borgnine's portrayal was tender and thought provoking. His love interest was different too. She was petite and pretty, but she convincingly played the part of a gentle introvert and a repressed wallflower. Sometimes awkward silences are more realistic than sassy, quick-witted satire (though I love that too). These two tried to rock the boat for a bit of happiness and whether they gained it or not, well, you have to see the movie.
