• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I have an on and off again relationship with Ephedrine. I used to take it a lot when i was 16. One night I almost overdosed taking 25 pills (25mg) at once. I think my addiction to it is the effect on the metabolism. It gives me energy and makes me think quicker. But it agitates me and depresses me when i am off it. I can't seem to completely kick it. The worse part is its the only drug that clears my sinuses up and i have bad sinus problems from working in a steel plant. Any insight?

I used to do a lot of meth, and when I could not get any I would do ephedrine. What a lousy high that was. I did large quanties such as you have and found that it had many bad side effects that gave me more pain than the pleasure I got out of taking the drug. I even started stuttering. How about that depression? Ain't much fun is it? You are young and you could find yourself on the way to a life of addiction if you continue to fool around with chemicals. It will get you before you even know you're had. Continue to use it and you have the opportunity to experience first hand how it feels to have a heart attack!.......that's the truth man!.......read it and weep..........If you quit taking that crap, you sinuses might clear up..........find an NA meeting and ask some ex-druggies up-front about what's going onin your life...........I have not meant to hurt you or to offend you.......if I have please forgive me......jerry

I don't offend very easily...yeah i have felt like my heart is beating out of my chest. My girlfriend is responsible for helping me stay away from it and i have informed her of my problem. I was more lonely then anything i think and she has filled that void. I have had other chemical addictions. I was addicted to Oxycotin when i was 17. My step-dad's daily dose was 2 to 3 a day and i was taking 5 at a time up to twice a day. The only way i kicked that habit was when he stopped taking it and that was a tough one to get off of. It took me a good month to get over it. Through the power of our Lord i have been able to stay away from the substance and alcohol. I am glad he put my girlfriend in my life to help me along too. Thanks for your post!

As Jerry has already pointed out, NA meetings would be a very good idea. Dealing with the various triggers that could drop us back into active addiction is an important step into maintaining lifelong recovery. Loneliness is a big issue for many of us. Filling that void with a relationship can seem like a quick and easy solution but it is a very dangerous one as it puts an unhealthy dependence on that person that will likely boomerang and potentially cut one into pieces.

That's my experience for what it is worth.

You might want to ask a doctor how to get off of it. He may be able to show you a way that's slow and steady that wouldn't be too hard for you.

Also a good salt water solution used regularly is good for sinuses.
