  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have no idea why anyone would buy one... the only thing I can think of is if a broadcasting company or DVD store or something gave you one free to join their club or something... This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Anyway you could still leave the room or read or something during the commercials--unless they are going to start sending someone to your house to make sure you are watching them?

The problem comes if eventually all new TVs have the technology...or if cable boxes eventually have the technology installed by default. Just because Phillips is patenting it, doesn't mean they can't sell the use of the technology to other companies for a pretty penny if broadcasting companies start pushing TV makers/cable providers to do it for various incentives.

Another reason to miss our old console TV.:(

And if you can't change channels during a comerical it means you have to miss the begining or end of your show if you want to change channels.

And another stupid thing is that you can't skip commercials on DVD recordings of shows either.
If VHS had that technology we would still be forced to sit through commericals for places that went out of business in 1996 and for sales that ended in 1989.

Someone else will come out with the technology to over-ride it, just like they do with radar detectors.

This is just plain silly - Why in the world would anyone buy one?

If you have a choice of having it / not having it, true most wouldn't buy it, but if they licnse the teck, the advertising agencies puss for ALL TVs to have support for it, then you may not have a choice of buying / not buying it.

But wait can't I just keep my current TV ?

Not for long, When every station is brodcasting HDTV, you'll either need a New TV, or TV Tuner, and that may support the new feture. And Cable / Sattalite will just stop supporting the Older boxes (Due to security / pirac worries), and you'll have to upgrade them also.

I didn't even think of that! I often watch two shows at once by flipping during commercials! Remind me to never buy another Philips product ever again!
