• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi,

This is my first post on any kind of forum anywhere so it feels a bit weird. All I wanted to say is that I've battled with self-harm for years before I became a Christian. It's still hard now that I beleive, but the Lord does make a huge difference. I'm struggling with all His energy now (Col 1:29) and day by day I'm beginning to cope without hurting myself. Does anyone else have an encouraging testimony to share?

God has made such a big difference in my recovery.

Today is day 71. I never thought I would make it past 21 days - at the most. It's funny, the more days that go by, the more I look to God. When I was deep in the darkness and blackness of SI, suicide, self-hate, and starving, I came close to hating God for forcing me to be alive. But now ... now I can thank Him for everything, even the hellish experiences that I've been through. And every day I'm discovering something new about either myself or Him, or the both of us together.

Our Daddy is so awesome.

God does make a difference for all who try to recover from anything in this life. Sin is sin and it binds those without Christ into a darkness they cannot even see. Christians caught in sin sometimes end up back in that same place. I know I was with a vengeangence this past spring. But God brought certain people in my life and put me a place where He could really work with me, intimately and I have been injury free since May 18th.

I think we must keep uppermost in our minds that God loves so much that He gave us I John 1:9, "If we confess our sins He is FAITHFUL AND JUST TO FORGIVE US OF OUR SINS AND TO CLEANSE FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS."

We get to start all over and we're brilliantly clean!
And broken down wrecks having to pick ourselves up by the bootstraps and try again to please a God who is unreachable... For those who haven't the post about Scripture for S.I.'s Psalm 139:5 tells us that He is so near that His hand is on us always, forever and ever. Wow!

I would never have the strength to stop cutting if I had not turned to the LOrd. And I still struggle with the thoughts regularly. I have found power...to defeat the enemy of my soul with scripture mostly. I was a cutter for 8 years and by God's power, and strength I haven't cut myself since Feb 11.

We had lots of people on our Alpha Course last night and I'm in charge of cooking for them all. It was the first night and full of unknowns as we were doing lots of things differently from last year. The Lord got me through it without me needing to cut. Wow. Thank you Lord!
