Encouragement..how do we give and get it and where do we find it?

I see a thread about 'discouragement' has gone on for sometime and that is good ; but I thought it might be good to start one on "encouragement."

How are you encouraged? When do you give others encouragement? Where do you find encouragement?

Do some have the ministry of encouragement?

Any or all of the above..let's share.

And may you all be "encouraged" to do so.

Excellent topic.

There is a difference in encouragement and stroking egos. Sometimes I find that I mean to encourage and egos get stroked instead. And.....sometimes I get encouraged in my walk but my ego fattens...

I can't wait to see how this thread unfolds.

Encouragement! wow.

In it's purest form encouragement is an expression of faith. Whether faith in the integrity of God or an individual, it's how we feel beyond what is happening at the moment.

It's reminding them of their greatness through God in every circumstance. That the Grace of God goes beyond their human ability to cope or overcome. Ego or self really has no part in it.

Personally, I receive encouragement in a number of different ways.

• Friends who listen long enough to understand and speak short enough to get the message through.
• People who like Jimbeaux who, while being almost a polar opposite, have the honesty to be unbiased enough to agree at times and even compliment people they disagree with.
• Prayer in the Holy Ghost - I am strengthened and encouraged the very most by the Spirit of God and what He says and expresses to me in His Word and through the Spirit.

Hopefully I give it out the same way.

I wish I could figure out how to put it up there on that little music speaker icon, but I can't.

If you can find it online the song will encourage you.

As a friend said, "Jesus rocks my pink socks" meaning this song.

Great thread, thanks for starting it!

I think it is really important to encourage others and I also think some are called to do this on a regular basis having a special gift for it. But it must be sincere and not contrived. If someone compliments me that is fine..but when it is done with honesty and consistantly I feel it is most encouraging.

What really encourages me the most is when someone (like a friend) who knows me well and doesn't usually flatter me encourages me in something. I know they know me so their encouragement means a great deal.

Most of all I am encouraged just by the times when I have heard God's call and in obedience followed where He led. The confirmations which follow are magnificent encouragement from the Lord. And exciting too! And by obeying and serving (ministry) I am also edified and encouraged.
