• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Apparently, my 17 yr old sister took 11 welbutrin caps last night and hallucinated and was just wooptie doo happy. This morning she called me and she feels all messed up, she says, and her muscles hurt and her bones too, according to her. She sounds pretty bad.

This is out of the norm for her, she doesn't do drugs and rarely even drinks in comparisson to every other kid her age, but I guess she got some [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]-eyed idea that because the drugs were Rx, they were safe or something.

Do I need to take her to the doctor? I read online there is a risk of seizure on an overdose. Does anyone know anything about this?

I have heard that Welbutrin can have some nasty side effects, so likely it would be a good idea to ask a doctor or Poison Control center.

Might also want to dig a little deeper what she was thinking of. Medical drugs are often more dangerous then street drugs in my experience.

If she had overdosed, it would have happened when she was on the drug, not anytime after. So you shouldn't have to worry about seizures. The symptoms she's having are common with heavy drug use during a short period of time, from my experience. She should be fine, but take her to the doctor if you want to be absolutely certain.

woooo, thats alot of wellbutrin.
well, anyways, as said before, you overdose while you're ON the drug.
thats just it...if she'd been taking it regularly (but at the reccomended dosage) for awhile, shes likely to have a buildup in her system.

as i recall, the drug is meant to stay in you for 24 hours per one dose (its been awhile since i've been on it)
what she is experiencing right now is likely partially a sort of "pill-hangover"...which might last a little bit longer due to the fact that the drug itself is meant to stay in your system for a decent period of time.

its no suprise that she was feeling happy as can be. wellbutrin is abuseable because an ingredient in it produces effect similar to amphetamines (ie. adderall, ritalin, concerta, coke, meth, etc)

she'll be fine is my guess, and hopefully she'll have learned that usually you cant get messed up without a nasty day-after.
