  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Election results quite normal

That the House flipped party leadership was to be expected. The dems lost some 60 seats in Obama's first term. Typically 30 or more seats change to the party out of power in nearly every midterm.

The long term implications could actually favor the Republicans. This will occur if the House leadership becomes radical like many have promised. They might impeach Trump, promote things like a "guaranteed income" for all and order investigations that will show how they really are. I seriously doubt they can keep it together. A positive for the democrats and America would be if they became more moderate.

Still, if you were expecting a red tsunami, I would not sweat it. Trump got the tax cuts through and I doubt you will see much change, just far more theatrics that will not go anywhere.

One thing positive for all, is that more women are now in office.

That the GOP won more Senate seats was expected too. Some of the Senators like Heitkamp in North Dakota, won on Obama's coattails when first elected in 2012 (Obama was on the ballot for his 2nd term). Now she and others are one and done, reverting the Senate back to normalcy. Murkowski and Collins will not be able to block Trump appointees.

Wikipedia has an interesting chart showing midterm election results:

United States midterm election - Wikipedia

Notably, in the first midterm election of their presidency, Bill Clinton lost 54 House seats & 9 Senate seats, while Obama lost 63 House seats & 6 Senate seats.

Trump's Republicans have done comparatively well ... but don't expect the media to interpret it that way!

Nicely said. I was not really too disappointed about the elections. Like you said, based off history, it was more than likely to happen.

My disappointment came from the amendments that had been or had not been passed. I felt like the majority of measures passed will do more harm in the future for the conservatives than good based on how desensitizing they can be (example: Compare movies of the 40-60's to the ones they crank out now). I see damage on the distant horizon.

I know but I am tired of the flip flopping. Independent voters ruin everything by changing their vote every 2 years. People just can't make up their minds

I had to laugh at this. I was thinking the same thing. Glad I wasnt alone.

The important thing is that the investigations can now go on without interference from the WH. And some of the nutcases are gone. Wisconsin finally had enough of Scott Walker, and tossed him out. However, the republicans second-ranking white supremacist narrowly won. Steve King, used to huge majorities, is still not officially the winner, but should pull it out.

Trump's first comment was that the House results weren't his fault, they were Paul Ryan's fault.

Much agreed. There were really no surprises overall.

Good thing though, God is in control.

Yep. Polls indicated a blue wave in the house, and a lot of house seats flipped.

The democrats had more senators up this time, than the republicans did, so the Senate didn't flip.

The vote totals were strongly democrat, so much so, that Gerrymandering and voter suppression didn't help the republicans that much, this time.

As I and a lot of others predicted, Republicans gained a few seats in the Senate. Beto failed to unseat Cruz (that one had to sting for a lot of folks), the Senate seats in Indiana, North Dakota, and Missouri flipped.

The best part is that there is a real potential for another Trump appointee on SCOTUS.
