Election Day
Just as they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations, so will I choose their delusions, and bring their fears on them; because when I called, no one answered, when I spoke they did not hear; but they did evil before My eyes, and chose that in which I do not delight. - Isaiah 66:3c-4.
In the United States tomorrow is Election Day and we have been bombarded with the views of the candidates. The candidates have their spin on every issue and the news media has their spin on the spin. We have been told that this election will determine the course of the nation for decades. Each side has demonized the other and the hype has reached new heights! However, every election is important and we should very carefully consider prior to our vote for which the Lord would have us to vote.
Spiritually there is an even more important Election Day. Joshua put it like this: ...choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15). In Romans 10:13 we are told For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. If we call upon the name of the Lord we have voted for Him. If we refuse to call upon the name of the Lord we have spiritually voted against Him in our lives. Jesus says in John 3:16 ...whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. In John 3:18 Jesus says He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Once we know Jesus as our Savior our election days are not over but have just begun. Each day we must choose. We must choose to live in accordance with the Spirit or live according to the desires of the sinful nature. We must choose between death or life and peace (Romans 8:5-6). Each day is a spiritual Election Day. Let us elect to put on the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 13:14) each day. Let us choose life and peace. Let us choose as Joshua did to each day ...serve the Lord.
