I don't know about anyone else, but I am bothered by his life as a conman. I don't care if he's gay or not.

I think it's a *good* thing that conservative gay people are Republicans. Perhaps that would help drive the worst anti-gay bigots in the GOP to self-purge themselves from the party and return it to a more normal conservative party. (Same with Black conservatives and the worst racists or conservative atheists and the Christian nationalists.)

I think people are more upset that a guy who lied through his teeth to his electorate in order to get elected is not only still in a job but is being placed on various committees. Anyone who trusts anything this man says is asking to be made to look a fool.

I expect all people to bend the truth. None of us are innocent in this regard. Especially politicians who are generally under the spotlight 24/7. I'd be absolutely astonished to find a single one who hadn't embellished a fact or exaggerated a claim. Or even said something that was blatantly untrue for political expediency. They are people just like us and have all the faults that plague us all. But Santos?

Good grief, man. This is a whole new ball game we have here. His lying is pathological. He didn't simply add a flourish or two to his CV as we all might. He made it all up. You literally cannot trust anything he says whatsoever.

A federal judge on Friday ordered the attorneys for Kari Lake and Mark Finchem to pay Maricopa County $122,200 — money the county's taxpayers spent to fend off a “frivolous” lawsuit brought before last year’s election.

Last August, he threw out their lawsuit, noting that the pair provided no evidence that machine counting produces inaccurate results and no proof that a hand count of ballots would be more accurate.

In December [the post I quoted], he followed up by granting Maricopa County’s request for sanctions against the lawyers for bringing a “frivolous” lawsuit that “baselessly kicked up a cloud of dust.”

And on Friday, he socked attorneys Kurt Olsen, Andrew Parker and Alan Dershowitz with the county’s $122K bill, though Dershowitz is liable for just 10% of the tab.

The Arizona Supreme Court's ruling said: "Because Petitioners were not only aware that they needed a final judgment to seek appellate relief but also misrepresented to this Court that they had sought such relief when they had not done so, and because this representation was the underlying premise upon which this petition was brought, and because all of Petitioners' claims for trial court error can be presented on appeal, we find that the special action unnecessarily expanded the proceeding and compelled Respondents to incur the unnecessary expense of filing their court-ordered response."

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes has subpoenaed the two Republican county supervisors to appear before a grand jury after they refused to certify the 2022 election results.

Supervisors Tom Crosby and Peggy Judd, both Republicans, were served subpoenas last week by Mayes’ office explaining that they are under investigation and ordering them to appear before the state grand jury on Nov. 13, according to a Votebeat review of Judd’s subpoena and a Herald Review report of Crosby’s subpoena.

Judd said she doesn’t regret her actions, but she does feel misled by the outside legal advice she received from private attorneys. “They all used me,” she said. “And it makes me sad.”

Mayes has also opened an investigation into five open meeting law violations by the county supervisors, three of them related to elections. One alleged violation was Crosby and Judd’s decision to sue [county elections director] Marra. The two hired a lawyer to sue her without voting on the matter at a public meeting.

Judd said that County Attorney Brian McIntyre has told her he will not represent her.

Under state law, public officials and employees can’t be held personally liable for following the advice of their attorney. But in this case, the supervisors went against the county attorney’s advice.

We The People gave her some good lawyers who told her "don't do that".

She wasn't misled. She wanted to do that. At best she was a willing accomplice in misleading herself.

In fact, Judd said at the time that she was aware she “might go to jail” for her vote.

It will be extremely satisfying if and when she does so.

Santos says he won’t seek reelection after release of ethics report

House investigators found “substantial evidence” that Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) knowingly violated a litany of ethics and criminal laws, according to a House Ethics Committee report released Thursday that prompted Santos to declare he would not seek reelection next year. “Representative Santos’ conduct warrants public condemnation, is beneath the dignity of the office, and has brought severe discredit upon the House,” Reps. Michael Guest (R-Miss.) and Susan Wild (D-Pa.), the committee’s chairman and senior Democrat, said in a joint statement.

According to the report, Santos was given an opportunity to submit to investigators a signed written statement responding to the allegations, but he did not do so. Santos also did not respond to the committee’s requests for documents, to voluntarily testify or to provide a statement under oath. The long-awaited report las out the conclusions of the committee’s months-long investigation in scathing language. According to the committee, investigators compiled more than 170,000 pages of documents and testimony from dozens of witnesses, including financial statements, to reach its conclusion.

“Representative Santos sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy for his own personal financial profit. He blatantly stole from his campaign. He deceived donors into providing what they thought were contributions to his campaign but were in fact payments for his personal benefit,” the report stated.

It continued: “He reported fictitious loans to his political committees to induce donors and party committees to make further contributions to his campaign — and then diverted more campaign money to himself as purported ‘repayments’ of those fictitious loans. He used his connections to high value donors and other political campaigns to obtain additional funds for himself through fraudulent or otherwise questionable business dealings. And he sustained all of this through a constant series of lies to his constituents, donors, and staff about his background and experience.” Guest will file a motion to expel Santos Friday morning, according to a person familiar with the plans who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations. The House can consider the motion upon its return from its holiday break on Nov. 28.

Another question might be, why are the Republicans still supporting Trump, who is guilty of much worse?

As the article points out, she had a fairly tough primary fight against Jeff Hurd -- and the polls were not looking good for Boebert after her whole Beetlejuice fiasco. As such, I'm not surprised she switched districts, though I'm not sure that she'll do any better in the 4th district than in the 3rd. It sounds questionable if she can survive the primaries, as she'll have to fight the Beetlejuice fallout, as well as the fact she is a "carpetbagger" who moved from another district.

The 3rd could still be interesting. I think Hurd could do well, particularly as more of a moderate; but while it is a Republican district (I believe about a 5% advantage), I think a lot of voters in the district may still want a change of party after Boebert's "representation" of their district.
