  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It's always been one of my favorite books. Even before I became a Christian, I could clearly see the wisdom in it. It's interesting too that "Vanity" can be translated as "Striving after the Wind", "Futile", "Pointless" or "Meaningless". In a way those translations make the point clearer.

Does anyone really find themselves relating to this book? I am very analytical and find myself saying exactly...right...etc when reading.
It's brilliant insight of life without Christ. Check out the testimony of Jeff Allen, a Christian comedian. It helped turn him from atheism to Christ.

In my arguing with those who love to try to discredit the Bible by showing supposed contradictions, they love Ecclesiastes, which seems (to them) to deny any consciousness or existence after death, and to show the hopelessness of either living right or wrong.

They love to pick here and there, but it is a whole book, announcing at the beginning the "parenthesis" so to speak, within which the teacher teaches and the experimenter experiments, and providing a conclusion to the whole matter at the end. This is not a hopeless book. It is a book demonstrating the hopelessness of life apart from God.

Ecclesiastes 1:9-11 NLT
[9] History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. [10] Sometimes people say, "Here is something new!" But actually it is old; nothing is ever truly new. [11] We don't remember what happened in the past, and in future generations, no one will remember what we are doing now.

We all know is stressed at the end so the argument that may be presented is pointless.
