  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So, do you do Easter or Spring baskets with your children?

What are putting in them this year?

We've started to call them spring baskets in our house because even my husband and I don't understand the connection of baskets full of little goodies and Resurrection Sunday.

Do you do egg hunts?

Color eggs?

Buy fancy spring dresses with bonnets and gloves?

This is just for fun and keeping it light.

lol, July; it's autumn here so no, we don't do *spring baskets*! We've done egg hunts & made *bunny nests* but all mine are a bit big for that now. Besides no~one in this house likes milk chocolate so I have to hunt up dark chocolate or white chocolate eggs so I'm the one doing an egg hunt! Even my biggest ones still like to get a few chocolate eggs on Easter Sunday.

lol, I was thinking the same, It's autumn, not spring! So all the secular - spring/new life/eggs connection doesn't work for our season!
But Ruth and I are going to try and make our own chocolate eggs for gifts this year. We don't really make a big deal about easter...but yes, keeping it light! It'll be fun!

We do an egg hunt with my brother and his kids and we hide the plastic eggs with candy inside each one.

we also color/dye a dozen eggs the night before Easter Sunday. We use those eggs for eating.

We also put together a basket of candy and a small toy for each child.

We have participated in Easter Egg hunts (through our town) but haven't done one ourselves.

We don't do baskets or candies from our family either

THe Sunday School program always gives away a basket after the childrens program on Sunday so they get plenty of treats from that.

I wanted to dye eggs this year but haven't had much time to do it so I'm thinking it won't happen.

However, we did get ressurection eggs this year and the kiddo's LOVE it! I think that will be our Easter tradition going forward!

This year (now that my son's old enough) we're doing an egg hunt for him. I"m putting graham cracker bunnies and goldfish in them. My mom, aunt and uncle and in laws are doing baskets for him. Gosh, I think I'll hold back on some of it or he'll be overwhelmed and think it's all about candy, gifts etc. UGH. I don't like that part of it, but what can ya do. I try to keep his "basket" items healthy or I'll pay for it later. An energetic boy with a sugar fix is not a pretty sight.

we're doing our first hunt with Randi this year. Elsa doesn't much care at almost 12. She just likes to get "stuff".

I got Randi an Ariel (little mermaid) doll. She's in love with that movie.

We're not going to decorate this year because she's just a bulldozer and would end up dyed herself and/or throwing eggs for fun or something.

Eh, I am comfortable calling them Pascha baskets but instead of a bunny we put a lamb as the stuffed animal. It's a great way to introduce the concept that we should celebrate the great joy we receive as Christians that Christ resurrected and is Alive! I put a stuffed lamb, a chocolate cross, some candies and a book about Christ.

As an Orthodox Christian, we dye our eggs red on Good Friday (April 23rd this year for me) to signify the blood of Jesus. I have never celebrated Pascha in a non-Orthodox manner (i.e. egg hunt, coloring eggs, etc). I spent every night of Holy Week in Church, we spent Good Friday dying the eggs and reflecting on Christ's work on the Cross, we went to late night service on Saturday where we light the candles of the entire Church from the candle of the Priest at midnight and then singing and proclaiming that He has risen and trampled death by death!

It has never been a fun or lighthearted holiday for me in life, a bit sorrowful and a lot joyful, and I will be raising my child in like manner.

That sounds very wonderful. In the past we've always included a book about Easter but this year we are overwhelmed with books. I'm actually in the process of purging.

I can relate to this. My parents and my grandparents went way overboard last year. My husband and I were actually a little offended. In some ways it was like a mini Christmas. We've talked about it and the family now understands our desire for the holiday.

We do an egg hunt for our kids. It will be at our house this year. Plastic eggs with stickers and for my oldest some bubble gum. Baskets have no candy but will have a hand made wand, personalized rice pack (for booboos), flip flops and sunglasses. The flip flops and sunglasses are our tradition for the coming of warm weather. It may sound like a lot but the only thing purchased was the flip flops and sunglasses the other items were made from items I had around the house.

We've colored eggs in the past but it was such a messy disaster that I won't be doing it again for a few years.

No fancy dresses and bonnets. I might have one of their spring dresses finished by Sunday but it isn't an Easter thing just their new wardrobe for the warmer weather.

This was one of her Easters.

This is about how our Easters go. She needs spring clothes might as well use Easter as an excuse to give them to her.

Now that she is older and buys clothes all the time, I don't have to do it at Easter.

They grow so quick it really is sad.

Several times she has gotten bunnies. Well, three times for Easter. Since we love pets.

I guess Easter is normally a mini Christmas for us. Not so much with candy. I remember my mom giving me pac-man for my atari one easter with a line of jelly beans to find it.

I do something like that for Taylor with her "big prize", I will write clues and hide them. So it is like a treasure hung.
