I have been told that the date of Easter has been known for several years due to archeological research of roman records. I have heard both april 3 and april 13. has any one else heard of this and if it is true why isn t Easter celebrated on the correct date ?

I thought we just went over this -- the Pope decides when Easter is for Catholics, and the Orthodox Patriarch decides when Easter is for Orthodoxy. Other Christians generally follow the Pope's lead.

I don t get herre too often so I missed that thread. have you ever heard of the archological evidence I mentioned. I know easter has to be after the full moon part.

Yes it always has been on Sunday. This evedince is rather new I think 10 years maybe less. I don t think Christians will want to change.

The first Easter, the Resurrection of Christ, may indeed have been on a particular date in April. However, since then the calendar has undergone many revisions.
Also, Easter is related to Passover. The present-day calculations for Easter are based upon the Jewish calendar, which is dependant upon the lunar cycle.
Jews are commanded in Exodus to celebrate the Feast of the Passover every year. Through Christ's death and resurrection, we are "adopted" into the family of God's Chosen People, so it is fitting that our celebration coincide with the Passover, since Jesus is the Passover Lamb.

I have no problem with the present method of celebrating Easter. I just think it is interesting that if a date is known no one wants to use it. We change Memorial Day and now even the Fourth of July.

This year, "Good Fri" falls on the same day as the Jewish Passover. (Christ was actually crucified on a Thu). This happens only once in a couple of decades.
So this Thurs, the Jews will be celebrating Passover feast.
