  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Every year our family does Pysanki eggs. Our versions are very simple, but we all enjoy them. It requres some specialized tools, but we do enjoy sitting at the table together and working on them.

I have found local craft stores in my area that carry the tools and waxes. Also, an Eastern Orthodox church in our area carries items. I can also get goose eggs and duck eggs from some local sellers. THey're nice because they are bigger than chicken eggs.

 Here's a craft my daughter did in school. Take a clean yogurt container, wrap colored yarn around container and hold in place with glue. Fill with compost or dirt; add grass seeds. Water, and put the lid on. Place in a well lit area. In a week's time it will be a nice grass-filled decoration to hold colored eggs.

Instead of pastel colored yarn, depending on age of children, you could glue on colored pictures, or decorate with colored sharpies or another medium that would not rub off.

Pysanki eggs can be very elaborate, decorated Easter eggs. I think they began in the Ukraine. It's a folk art that's been around for a loooong time. They are beautiful and the designs have very specific meanings, usually religious in nature. Click on the link I posted and you will see some extremely elaborate eggs.

Ours are much simpler than those in the gift shop! :D

I don't have any ideas for you, I just wanted to post in here and say hello! I have a friend who does pysanki eggs. She has done hundreds of them. Every year she does new ones for all her sisters, nieces and nephews. Very industrious. I must get her to teach me someday. Hope you have a joyful Easter, Paid in full! God bless.
