  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why 4 a.m. Is the Most Productive Hour by Hilary Potkewitz

According to the article early morning is more productive the waking later. Not only early but specifically at four. Personally I'm an early bird who prefers waking four to five in the morning. It's true there's a difference between the two when it comes to productivity. Depending when you begin the day beyond the initial start, it could be the difference of having a couple hours to three hours free versus an hour to couple hours. Also the additional hours early morning are before most people are awake, helping to ensure your time is free and not lost by distractions.

Are y'all early or late birds? What's your thoughts about it, are you early birds productive and can you late birds be productive?

I sleep till 7 am and actually get up at 8.
I own my own business so I can set my own hours.

Definitely nice being able to set your hours including your sleep. Only during the weekends or days off work do I not always get up early as four to five. Not needing to prepare for work or worry about the lack of free time. But not much later, even without an alarm, usually five to six. Which is great as it's still an early start to the day, any later I'd feel the day goes too quickly.

I stay up late and sleep as long as I can. I slept until 11:27 this morning.

I'm a student and don't have a summer job (I volunteer instead), so there's that.

Regardless of sleep schedules it's great you volunteer, as much meaningful as it's productive. What type of volunteering you do, a charity or service (ex: soup kitchen or firefighter etc.)?

I wish firefighting- fun fact, I actually was a certified firefighter (and EMT) until April (they expired and I don't have the money to take the refresher classes). I might try to renew them when I go back to school in the Fall.

I volunteer in my city's community services some mornings (so I don't sleep in all the time). I often have the option of what I want to do, so I usually stay in the warehouse and sort things because it's a mess in there. Some days I cook to show people what they can make with the food we give them. Just whatever's needed.

Even after my Mom retired she still got up at 4. She felt if she slept later that the day just wasn't productive.
I never understood getting up that early unless you have to.
I used to work a job that started at 3 a.m., so I got up at 2.

Never knew firefighters are required to get renewed certifications. But important careers/jobs like firefighters and EMTs which involves life and death situations it makes sense. I hope you do and are able to afford it, if it's what you want. Wow, sounds like you have an interesting and fulfilling life; firefighting/EMT, school and volunteering along with cooking. Doesn't seem like sleeping in some days is stopping you from living a productive life. I guess it ultimately depends on priorities and putting important things like volunteering at the top.

Even as an early bird that'd be a struggle. Sometimes if for a reason I went to bed very early, I've awoken at two to three, but made the day drag if at home or a tiring day if I'm at work. Other than productivity, the reason to get up four to five is just to start the day with the sunrise. Even if you do nothing, least you're awake for it. Ideally I'd always start my day at four to five getting some time and be up as the sun rises, later that night prepare for bed soon as the sun starts setting. Not sure if it's the idea or inherently true, feels natural and better to sleep and awake early (ex: like pre-fire primate humans).

I've been a late night person my whole life but I need to be on regular hours a lot more now and it's a constant struggle for me. I can't just go to bed. I have to feel really tired and start passing out. In my 20s I would get things done in the day by running 30 hour days instead of 24 hour days. That was the idea at least. I would mostly just stay up until I was tired and then sleep until I wasn't. The work I'm doing now doesn't make that a possibility anymore. I end up still staying up until I'm worn out but waking myself up early when I have something I need to be up for and this leads to a lot of nights where I dont sleep enough and spend the day running at 40% effeciency.

I struggled with all of this for a long time and I'm only 6 weeks into being a Christian so excuse me for just realizing now while I'm typing this that I should pray for help from God and that will lead me down the right path.
