  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't plan on getting our daughter's ears pierced until she's able to take care of them herself.

She's already begun asking about it (she's almost 5), noting that her cousin (who's almost 3) and other friends have theirs pierced. I tell her that every family is different, in our family that's the way it's done.

Case closed.......for now........

My daughter does not. I had them pierced at 12yo. Mine are constantly infected and not good (and I haven't worn earrings for more than 9 years).
I kinda see ear piercing the same way I do tattoos. They're an alteration of the body originally used to indicate ownership of slaves or devotion to a nonChristian religion. Don't care to get daughter's ears pierced.

We just got DD's ears pierced. She's 7. I'm beginning to wonder if we did the right thing. They have already gotten infected. I let the earrings stay out for a few days because it hurt her to put them in. Then we couldn't get them back in. A lady at church did it for us but DD says they hurt. I'm wondering if DD is going to be like Robinsegg and forever have problems.

Since we're on this subject, does anyone sleep in their earrings? I was thinking of letting DD sleep in hers once they got healed back up properly.

Emily's 15 months old and she does not have her ears pierced. I have nothing against getting them done very young, I just didn't want to have to hold her while they punctured her ear with a needle:( I think Ben and I have decided to just wait til she can ask.

I hadn't even thought of this. I was never allowed to get my ears pierced. I did once I got married and moved out.. shame on me for doing it the way I did. But that's as rebellious as I got.

I don't think I'll let Ida pierce her ears until she's at least 12. I can't see doing it before that.

DD #1 got hers pierced when she was 9 months old. No problems. Slept in her earrings from day 1 (because they're the safety back type.)

DD #2 got hers pierced at 6wks old. No problems. Slept in her earrings from day 1.

DD #3 got hers pierced at 8wks old. No problems. Slept in her earrings from day 1.

(Around here it's a cultural thing for baby girls to get their ears pierced. Plus I think it's Adorable. :) lol)

We haven't yet. We've set 5yo as the earliest we will allow it. Tori was really interested and even went to ask questions and see what she liked before her b-day. But, she decided a trip to an amusement park would be way cooler. So, we are in the clear for one more year. It is only offered as a b-day or Christmas gift.

I sleep in my earrings (a small pair of diamond studs)

I like pierced ears but not on small children under 5 - 6.

I got mind done when I was 4, although my daughter won't be getting hers done at that age.

I think we will take it as it comes. She is 2 on 30/6 so it's still a while away.

She has already shown interest in my jewellery. I wear the earrings, a small chain on my neck, and a watch. so I wonder how long it will be before she asks for earrings.

My girls wanted ''pretties'' like their mama. Oldest got hers done about 7 but has since removed them as she had to constantly take them out for sport, forgot to put them back in & they kept closing over. Eventually she got tired of her mama redoing them every few weeks. No infection or anything. Younger dd was about 3. She was just a terrible nag. We explained about the pain & once started she had to go through with it ~ & she did though we got an ''ouch!'' when the first hole was done. She has to keep to silver & sterling silver because of allergies but other than that has no problems. Mostly we stick to sleepers & the girls can sleep in those.

We decided on 5yo at the youngest, and only if they ask. So Emily started asking just before her 5th birthday, because her cousin has them, friends at preschool etc.

She was happy to wait until her birthday when we explained it. We thoroughly explained what would happen, how to care for them etc. Her cousin is constantly taking hers out and losing them, heaps of infections because she's not careful to keep clean etc. So there was a big "don't be like _ ", and she was happy with that.

She's so stubborn she didn't even say "ouch" :D and things have been fine (7 months now).

We both sleep in our earrings, just studs.

I had mine pierced for my fifth birthday. It was a great treat for me as I had wanted them to be pierced for quite some time before. Never had any problems with them and still don't! In high school I had two other sets of holes put in my ears and they sometimes had problems with infections but never the first pair. :)

I think babies with pierced ears are really really cute, but we will most likely wait until our daughter can take care of them herself. (That is, if this baby is still a girl when she meets us in August!) I was 12 when I got mine pierced, and it was a special birthday present that I will always remember! (Even though the actual piercing part wasn't so great!)

Wow thanks everyone! Well, she’s 5yo now and has been really asking to get them done and we were not going to even pursue it until she showed an interest. She’s very girly and loves anything pink, sparkly, etc. Plus some of her little friends have them done as well. I’ve explained to her exactly what happens when they get pierced and although she’s a little freaked about the procedure she still wants to get them done. I’m thinking about taking her to a place that does them and letting her talk to someone there and have them show her what all is involved.
